Douglas Lamar Vaughan, known lovingly to family and friends as Chappie, passed away on September 6, 2026, in Dublin, Georgia, at the age of 80.

He was born on September 26, 1945, in Macon, Georgia, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, faith, and service. Chappie was a Christian and a faithful member of Popular Springs North Baptist Church. He carried himself with quiet strength and a steady spirit, and those who knew him will remember his kind heart, his dependable nature, and the warmth he brought to every room.

Chappie served his country honorably as a United States Navy veteran aboard the USS Charles F. Adams naval destroyer. His time in the Navy reflected the same sense of duty and commitment that would guide him throughout his life. Later in life, he worked as a lineman and foreman with William Electric. He took pride in doing his job well and in setting an example of perseverance and responsibility for others.

An avid outdoorsman, Chappie especially loved fishing and hunting. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and treasured the time spent outdoors. More than anything, he loved his family deeply. He especially cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved. His presence at family gatherings brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that will be dearly missed.

Chappie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Mae Vaughan; his son, Ken Vaughan; his daughter, Kelly Ney; and his siblings, Gene Vaughan, Barbara Davis, Peggy Bloodworth, and Charlotte Hester.

He is survived by his wife, Selena Vaughan; his daughters, Kristy Vaughan, Tyna Lord and Wendy Slade; his brother, Weyman Vaughan; his sisters, Anita Walker, Georgia Knapp, and Debbie Evans; his brother, Chipper Vaughan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Chappie lived a life of faith, service, and devotion to the people he loved. His legacy will continue through the family he cherished, the example he set, and the memories he created over a lifetime well lived. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who were blessed to know him.

A graveside service will be held at Dublin Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Wes Pinkley will officiate.
