Coach Vernon Brooks

I just read in Jim's e-mail that Coach Brooks passed on at age 82.  That means he was only 14 or 15 years older than we were when we were in high school.  I know he was a great wrestling coach, but he was not the most patient person when he was teaching driver's ed.  Now that I am mature, I can only think he dreaded driving with me as his student as I did with him as my teacher.  That standard shift 1st gear was my torture.  Once I made it into 2nd, all was successful.  Unfortunately, that didn't happen right away.  I am sure my nickname was the great lurcher.  After about 10 minutes of sweating blood, I usually was able to successfully drive wherever it was we went without wrecking, probably surprising each of us equally!  Now that I look back, I am not sure which is worse:  my lurching days in driver's ed with Coach Brooks or waiting for my grandson to get home from driving somewhere now that he got his driver's license last Tuesday.......What goes around comes around:)

Hi to all! Please sign up to attend our "Golden" reunion. It's going to be a lot of fun catching up! Look forward to seeing everyone. I've enjoying visiting with most of you on this site, thanks to Jim. j
