Doreen D. Spotts (Shanteau)

Doreen Dixson Spotts Shanteau, age 65, Manhattan, died May 16, 2008 at her home in Manhattan, KS.

 

She was born on April 10, 1943, to Lucile Ada (Dixson) and Ralph Hall Spotts, Jr., in San Diego, California. They preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Madera Union High School in California and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The University of San Francisco in 1965.

 

Mrs. Shanteau served in the U.S. Naval Nurse Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. She also worked as a staff nurse and the director of the Obstetric and Women’s Health Department of Memorial Hospital and Mercy Regional Health Center for 20 years. She worked as an office nurse for Surgical Associates for 4 years. She was a published author on techniques of childbirth education.

 

She lived in Manhattan for 37 years where she was active in Girl Scouts of America, Childbirth Education Associates of Manhattan, Women’s Reproduction Information Network, National Organization for Women, Manhattan Library Association, Peggy Bowman Second Chance Fund, the Great Manhattan Mystery Conclave, and the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship.

 

She married James C. Shanteau on September 3, 1966, at the Treasure Island Chapel, U.S. Naval Station, San Francisco, California. He survives.
