Mary Jane chose not to have a funeral or an obituary.

If there had been a funeral for Mary Jane, I would’ve wanted to say a few things.

In November of 2020 I took Mary Jane on a drive to get ice cream for the very last time.  I didn't know it at the time, but it was the last time I would see her.

One thing I would’ve said is that I think most people who knew Mary Jane saw her as a kind person with a gentle spirit, and a wistful smile.  She was fun to be with, and was never critical of others.  She had a peaceful way about life.

She liked ice cream. She liked watching the river.  She liked going on drives around the countryside.  She liked sitting in folding chairs just watching and listening to the wind rustle the leaves in the trees at Clifty Park.   She liked her friends. She loved her daughter Dawn and she loved her cat Izzy Girl.

The last time I walked into the kitchen of MJ’s house she came over to me quietly and said, "I love you."  She didn’t know who I was, but it didn’t matter because she knew I was someone who cared about her.  I said, "I know you do Mary Jane and I love you too." Then I took her hand and we walked to my car and we took our last drive.

I didn’t know it would be my last memory of her.  But if it was to be my last memory of MJ, it was a very good one.
