Robert was one of my "many" best friends. We knew each other from 3rd grade until the time of his passing. Although not really well known to his classmates, the ones who knew him knew what a great person and friend he was. Although gone for many years, I still miss him.
I remember Robert, but I was trying to find out more about him. I thought he was in the military when he passed. I was in his class in the 4th grade. I wrote about Robert in a story I made up for Mrs. Grove's "creative writing" class and she gave me an A and had me read it in front of the class!
Robert graduated from Rose-Hulman in 1974. He & Don Nolan remained best friends and worked together in many cities in the US. At the time of his death, he was working in our area, and was married to Jana Fisse, class of 1973, and had two children, Jesse (age 5), & Jared (age 18 mo.). In August of 1986, Robert had complained of back pain, and was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sadly, he passed on October 5, 1986. Information provided by Theresa Scroggins, Don Nolan's sister. Theresa works with me in the Jr. High library.
Though we were in the same class I have few memories of Robert. I mostly knew him as the son of my Dad's friend and boss Lloyd. My parents and his parents were very close. I remember after his passing the sadness that enveloped his home. You are missed Robert.
Robert and I used to play doubles in ping pong during lunch. We did very well together and I can remember Bob Canada and Dave Cheatam coming in, while they were on spring break. Robert and Dave seemed to be good friends, but he really enjoyed thumping them. LOL Such a simple memory, but it comes to mind evry now and then, with a bit of longing.
