Gregory Humphrey
Gregory L. “Hump” Humphrey, 56, of Madison, died Thursday, Oct 13, 2011, at his residence.
He was born May 4, 1955, the son of George M. and Jeannette L. Scudder Humphrey. He lived most of his life in Jefferson County and was a 1974 [according to the obituary] graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He served as president of the Pep Club in high school. He joined the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of private first class. He was honorably discharged in 1974. He worked for U.S. Shoe Corporation from 1986 to 1992 before moving to Orlando, Fla., and working at Moeller Furniture. He also worked at Grote Industries, King’s Daughters’ Hospital, and NAC Inc. in North Vernon. He was a member of Hanover United Methodist Church, helped with Team Kids, and enjoyed fantasy football, playing softball, playing golf, watching sports and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Kia J. Humphrey and Tori P. Humphrey, both of Lexington; his mother, of Madison; his brother, Mark Humphrey of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Jeanie Watson and Connie Crawford, both of Orlando, Georgie Humphrey of Long Beach, Calif., and Penn Humphrey of Madison; one aunt; one uncle; one grant-aunt; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his father, who died in 1974; and his grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Wednesday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery.
