Sandra Schaefer (Woodard) VIEW PROFILE

Sandra “Sandie” L. (Schaefer) Woodard of Maple Valley, WA, age 48, passed away peacefully after a hard fought, brief battle with cancer on June 6, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born on July 4, 1972 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Robert and Jane (Lemberger) Schaefer. Sandie graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 1990. She was united in marriage to Kurt Woodard on October 17, 1997 eventually moving to the Seattle, WA area.

Sandie was well accomplished in her career working in Commercial Property Management. This fell in line well with her ability to bring people together and get things done. While many people thought about what to do and when to do it, Sandie took the initiative to make it happen. Sandie was quick to make friends with anyone she met and enjoyed sharing her life with them. Her sharp wit and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. Sandie had a passion for travel both professionally and personally. One of the extraordinary trips she took was for her great love of horses. After the passing of her father she made a journey to bring by trailer, across country, his horses from Wisconsin to be with her in Seattle. We know the time she was able to spend with her horses she treasured. Sandie was our “Firecracker Baby”, born on the 4th of July which made celebrating her birthday so special, often at their cabin which Sandie so fondly referred to as her “Happy Place”.

Sandie was a sister, daughter, wife and most importantly a Mother. Her pride came from her children Madison and Cole – to live life and create many special moments with them and for them. She worshipped her family and friends. Her heart was vast and generous, as expressed in her own words, a truly special message:

“Each day is a gift. Don't put off date nights with your significant other...plan it now. Wear the special expensive perfume. Put on the beautiful dress. Everyday should be a special occasion. Hug the people that are close to you and don't be afraid to overuse the words “I love you”. In my opinion...you can never say those words too much. “

Words we will cherish and strive to live by…

During Sandie’s courageous battle there was no distance we would have not gone to rescue her. We would have sent an army to fight for her. That we could be her strength, her shelter and her armor. To never stop marching to reach her in the middle of her hardest fight. We can only pray God was there to hear her whisper, the day our hearts were broken.

Sandie lived life to the fullest…always making memories. In doing so there will never be a moment she is forgotten. Sandie will eternally be with us and in our memory. WE LOVE YOU!

Sandie is survived by her husband Kurt; two children, Madison and Cole; two sisters; Sue (Bob) Gallmeier, Traci Schaefer; two brothers; Jeff Schaefer, Tom (Nicole) Schaefer; father-in-law, Ed Woodard; mother-in-law Anne Heffernan; and brother-in-law Eric Woodard. She is also survived by her many nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, July 23, 2021 at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM until time of mass on Friday at the church.
