Ruth Ann Jackson (Street)

LOUISVILLE - Ruth Ann Street, 80, of Louisville, KY, died April 15, 2023, at her home.
Ruth Ann was born September 4, 1942, in Madisonville, KY to David Todd Jackson and Ruth Hicklin Jackson. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1960 and earned a degree in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky in 1964.
Ruth Ann met George Street of Louisville, KY, in Lexington, KY., at U of Ky on a blind date, in September 1962 and they were married in Lexington on June 13, 1964. Daughter Sarah Elizabeth was born in 1966 and son George Jr. in 1969.
From Lexington the family moved to Centerville, OH in 1970 and then to Louisville in 1973. Ruth Ann stayed busy with the family, was a leader of Junior Girl Scouts. At John Knox Presbyterian Church she was active in the choir, with practices on the weeknights and worship services on Sunday. Many long-term relationships were formed during these times.
As Sarah grew older Ruth Ann spent many hours hauling her to horse- back riding lessons and to local horse shows. George Jr’s participation in SAY Soccer kept her at Tom Sawyer Park for many hours. Helping host German exchange students in Sarah and George Jr’s high school days was highlighted by a visit to the students’ hometown of Halle, Germany, and a stay with one of the families. Ruth Ann loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 of the US states as well as Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England, Scotland, Canada, and Mexico. The last 20 years have included a mid-January driving trip to spend a week in Key West and participation in reunions of the 801/492nd Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. Spending time with veterans and their families was priceless.
After the kids graduated high school Ruth Ann was employed by Primary Devices, then a local manufactures’ rep. She enjoyed the customer service and helping to “spec” gauges, valves, meters, and other industrial devices.
Ruth Ann’s interest in animals was shown by her spending over ten years as a docent at The Louisville Zoo, attaining the status of Emeritus. She never forgot her commitment to her high-school friends by monitoring the class website and helping with reunion planning. Social visits with her chums knew no geographical limits whether in Florida, California or back in Madisonville.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother Maurice Edward Jackson. She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, George and her children Sarah Mosberg and George Street, Jr. and by grandchildren Patrick Aidan Kidwiler, Michelle Aislinn Kidwiler, Caleb Ronald Street and Olivia Ruth Street.
The family extends gracious thanks to caregiver Sherry Terrill for her loving care and to friends and neighbors who assisted her with the many appointments she had to endure over the last two and a half years.
Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 9104 Westport Road, Louisville, Ky 40242 on May 11 at 1:00 PM EDT).
Remembering Ruth Ann with support for the Pollinator Garden at John Knox Presbyterian Church or for the Louisville Zoo would be appreciated.
