Julian "Duke" Smith Sr. died in his home in Madisonville, Nov. 2, 2013.  Julian was born in Hopkins County Aug. 11, 1941.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Ann Wilson Smith; three daughters, Melissa Ezell, Kathy Higgins, and Kym Davis; two sons, Julian Jr. and Chris; ten grandchildren and  a great-grandchild.

Julian was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  His hobby was his work, which was spent in the explosives and mining industry.  He was a Kentucky Colonel and a Mason.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Madisonville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop Peter Clemens officiating.  Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Barnett-Strother Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
