Alan and I enjoyed each other's company while at Malverne and periodically thereafter.  What a sunny disposition and extremely quick witted.  I remember his parents quite well and, in fact, I worked for his dad at his pharmacy in Oceanside, NY (my very first job if memory serves me right......and it rarely does)!!  He was such a decent person and great fun to be around.  Not to mention that he had the greatest arm (softball or baseball) I had EVER seen and I felt like I was playing  with Roberto Clemente.  Unfortunately, Alan was taken from us much too soon with a debilitating disease and he certainly had much more to give.  As an aside, he and Norman Goldsmith were inseparable and Norman also was taken from us way too soon.  Just had a thought........I don't believe that I ever saw Alan without a smile (or at least a grin) and he NEVER had a  bad word about anyone.......EXCEPT THE OTHER TEAM!!!!!

Well, that's about it and I confess that I wish these comments had not been necessary however; I am sitting here with a smile on my face (or at least a grin) realizing how cathartic this has been.

Hope to see many of you in September!!!!
