Our 25th Reunion
REUNION POEM # 1
This is my first reunion---
I don't really know where I've been.
Living my life, I guess,
Thinking of you all now and then.
As first it was oh so easy
And life seemed real sweet.
Decisions came so quickly---
I didn't miss a beat.
I left this town and my family,
I couldn't wait to get out.
I was filled with such great confidence,
---I knew what it was all about.
It took me awhile 'til I realized
That no matter where I may go,
I see myself in the mirror
And I'm the one I must know.
When things got confused and uncertain
And the future seemed filled with the past,
It was nice to know that some friendships
Are the kind that are destined to last.
And so, even though I've not seen you
Or written, or called on the phone,
I've known that somehow you were with me
And I've not faced this hard life all alone.
But I fear that this rhyme sounds too dismal,
Too melancholy and too bleak.
That's really not a true reflection
Of the times that I've been at life's peak.
I think of the pleasures of loving,
The blessings of children and home.
I think of service to others
And the joys of a job well done.
So, let's renew what we feel has some meaning,
Let's promise to care through the years.
Let's not dare forget about each other,
Let's reunite amid dozens of cheers.
For each one of us is so very special
And we've learned to survive and be strong.
Let''s go on from this place and be grateful,
That in each others' hearts we belong.
