On Thursday, December 3, 2015, René Rocque of Marinette, Wis., ended her earthly journey with family and friends and began anew. René was born September 5, 1961, to Robert and Vivian (Borzych) Woodky in Oak Park, Ill.
René graduated from Marinette High School in 1979. While working as a police dispatcher with the City of Marinette, René met and later married Michael Rocque on April 21, 1990. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1998. She then transferred her employment to administrative secretary for the Marinette Fire Department, until her illness forced her retirement in 2012. Those of you who knew René can attest to her humor. Nothing was off limits as far as a joke, including death, be it yours, mine or hers. Her sense of humor and her laugh is something that will never be forgotten, nor her kindness. No matter her circumstance in life, someone was always worse off than she. Her children, Rich and Beth, meant the world to her. She loved planting big gardens and buying more chickens for her mother's "egg factory."
Survivors include her children: Richard Rocque of Eagan, Minn. and Elizabeth (Buttercup) Rocque of Marinette; her mother, Vivian Woodky; brothers: Terry (Mary) Woodky and Richard Woodky, all of Marinette; sisters: Michelle (Robert) Steffen, of Menominee, and Elizabeth (Marc) Kopish, of Marinette; her niece and god-child, Melissa Coble; niece, Terra Woodky; and nephew, Noah Steffen. She is further survived by the Rocque family: George, Carl and Kevin of Goodman, Wis., Bev (Rocque) Dietz of Merrill, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; her father, Robert; her mother-in-law, Iva Rocque; and a nephew, Paul Dietz.
A funeral mass will be offered at noon on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Holy Family Parish - Our Lady of Lourdes Church, on Taylor Street in Marinette, by Father Celestine Byekwaso. A celebration of life and luncheon reception will follow at the Holy Family Parish Center on the parish campus. Per René’s wishes, we encourage friends to wear bright colors instead of black to the funeral. If you own a pink t-shirt from the Marinette Fire Department's breast cancer awareness fundraiser in recent years, wearing that would be an acceptable tribute to René.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in René’s name are suggested for St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, Marinette. René's family extends a special thank you to the caring nursing staff at Bay Area Cancer Center and BAMC 2nd floor. "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I had not a single bit of talent left, and could say 'I used everything you gave me,'” (Erma Bombeck).
Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
