Larry J. Brown August 22, 1946--August 31, 2019
Larry J. Brown, age 73 of Marion, passed away Saturday August 31, 2019.
Larry was born on August 22, 1946 in Marion, the son of Dr. Jerome Joseph and Mary Florence (Axe) Brown. He graduated from Marion Catholic High School in the class of 1964. Larry had a very successful footbal career while in school and was voted All Ohio Lineman. Larry attended St. Gregory's University for his undergraduate degree and continued his education at Xavier University where he received his bachelor degree.
On August 29, 1970, Larry was united in marriage to Susan J. Thaw. The couple recently celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Larry was a faithful and devoted servant to his family and his community. He has served in many roles for numerous organizations over the years. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus where he was an active member, Knights of Pythias member, Moose Lodge of Marion, Pheasants Forever, current board member of the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, assistant track coach of 6 years, OHSAA Track Official for 24 years, former Marion County Commissioner, volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul and was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Larry worked for Vern Hart Insurance for a period of time and most recently was serving Marion Township as the Road Foreman.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan J. Brown; loving children: Timothy J. (Candice) Brown, Amy J. (Mark) Brown and Jody J. (Brian) Bailey; grandchildren: Mason Brown, Ava Brown, Caden Bailey, Keely Bailey and Nathan Brown: siblings: Ann E. (Mike) Wiseman, Pamela (Norm) M. DeGroodt and Dr. Timothy J. (Lisa) Brown; sisters-in-law: Jody (Dr. John) Rowe and Cathy (Mike) Dickerson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dr. Michael J. Brown and David J. Brown; and brother-in-law Don Thaw.
Visitation will be Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Marion Township Office, 1228 E. Fairground St., Marion from 3PM to 7PM; Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 North Main St., Marion at 10:30AM with Fr. Thomas Buffer officiating; burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stephen J. Memorial Scholarship Fund or Father Fred Furey Scholarship Fund both c/o the Marion Communiry Foundation.
