Karen Joan Witzel (7/5/1946-2/7/2011)
Marion. Karen J. Hickok, age 64, of Marion, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Friday afternoon, February 7, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a sudden aneurysm.
On July 5, 1946, Karen was born in Marion, the daughter of the late Wallace and Virginia Witzel. She graduated from Marion Catholic High School in the Class of 1964.
For over fifteen years, Karen worked as a home supervisor for those with disabilities for the Marion County MRDD. She truly loved the feeling it gave her when she was able to help those in need, who also became her friends.
In 1991 Karen moved from Caledonia to Marion to be with her husband and the love of her love, Ernest Hickok. They enjoyed their rides together on their motorcycles.
A woman of deep faith, Karen was a member of Grace Harvest Community Church in Marion. She also enjoyed being active in bible studies and reading books that helped to strengthen her love for the Lord.
The apples of her eye were truly her grandchildren, whom she cherished spending time. Together they had fun on camping trips and making crafts.
Karen will be dearly missed by her husband, Ernest Hickok of Marion, two sons, Tommy (Lori) Miller of Delaware, and Chad (Malinda) Steinhilber of Marion, two daughters, Christine (Miller) Ivy of Texas, and Kimberly (Hickok) (Mike) Hogan of Cardington, eight grandchildren: Austin Ivy, Taylor Ivey, Tyler Miller, Rachel Hogan, Michael Hogan, Tommy Miller, Jessica Hursey, and Allen Mitchell, and one great-grandchild, Graham Hursey.
Including her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Witzel.
Celebration of life services for Karen will be held at 3:00 p. m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Grace Harvest Community Church, 127 N. Prospect St., Suite 206, Marion, with Pastor Greg Master officiating. Her family would like to encourage everyone who knew her to come and share your special memories of Karen.
