D.M. Register - Ex-Iowan among dead in Mexican Copter Crash

A native Iowan and her husband died in a helicopter crash in Mexico on Tuesday, a family member said.

Linda Perrin Taber, formerly of Marshalltown, and her husband, Roy Howard Pollack, 66, were with 11 other tourists and the pilot in a helicopter that crashed into the sea on a return trip to the Island of Cozumel.

Taber, 52, was born in Iowa and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960, said her stepbrother, Craig Leonard of Blue Springs, MO. was a journalism graduate of the University of Iowa and received a master's degree from Syracuse University.

Taber, a communications specialist, started her career as an editor at the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Leonard said.  Taber and Pollack had lived in NY and Princeton, NJ.

Aside from Leonard, Taber is survived by her father and stepmother, Burr and Jane Perrin of Marshalltown; a sister, Jan Tracey of Kinnelon, NJ.; a brother, Kent Perrin of St. Louis;  and a stepsister, Judy Cornwall of Kirkland, WA.

Copter Crash kills Marshalltown native

A former Marshalltown woman was one of the 14 people killed in a helicopter crash near Cozumel, Mexico, this week.

Linda Pollack, NY City, was the eldest daughter of Burr and Jane Perrin, Marshalltown.  She had lived in NY for several years.

Pollack and her husband were on the flight when it crashed Tuesday.  Ten other Americans, an Italian living in America and the Mexican pilot also died when the Bell-212 helicopter they were in crashed into the Caribbean Sea about three miles off-shore.  They had been at the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza on the Yucatan peninsula on a day-long trip.

FBI forensic experts traveled to Cozumel to help identify the bodies.  Further information about Pollack and her husband was not available.

Services for Linda M. Perrin Pollack, 52, of New York City and formerly of Marshalltown, and her husband, Roy H. Pollack, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, in a helicopter crash near Cozumel, Mexico.

Joint services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Unitarian Church, 80th and Lexington Ave, New York City.  Burial will be at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to her family or the YWCA of Marshalltown. 

Linda Pollack is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burr H. Perrin of Marshalltown, who are wintering at 2605 N.E. 32nd Ave., Fort Lauderdale, Florida, two brothers, Kent Perrin of St Louis MO. and Craig A. Leonard of Blue Springs, MO; two sisters, Janet Tracey of Kinnelow, N.J., and Judy Cornwall of Kirkland, WA.; and seven nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Luella, and a brother, Brad.
