Tim, so I'm guessing that was me?  I don't remember a Mrs. Guttenberger or telling on you--but I DO remember you being mad at me....for like 3 years!  Sorry!

Mitch, I Hope you find Tim Harvey on Facebook.  Speaking of Tim's--what about Tim Polzin.  Do you know where he is?

Shannon.....You don't remember Ms. Guttenberger?  We had 8th grade spanish with her and she had that Dorthy Hamil haircut at the time and absolutely loved her!!  It was on the second floor right across the hall from Mr. Peterson's science class.  She made us sing "Eres Tu" a few times because she liked that song!  And yes....it was you that told on me when I skipped that one class!!!  Of course I held that grudge for about 3 years too long......sorry about that!  I shouldn't have even gotten mad in the first place because we were in the 4th Street "Hood" together, although you were at the top of the hill and I was way down at the bottom!!!!

Deb....yes, I remember Tawain Kim.  I knew alot of the Lenihan people because I used to hang out with Steve Devenney and he always filled me in to the "Lenihan scene".  I even remember you from junior high!  I also absolute love that term "going with" too!!!!!

Wow Tim--your memory is great!  I remember singing that song--I always thought it was so sad--but Mrs. Guttenberg, not so much.  I also thought Spanish was up above the balcony in the auditorium.  Maybe one year it was.  We need someone from Anson to get on too--how bout it, Connie Holubar?  And Tim, work on your buddy Dave Evans to get on for another Lenihan person--I've had no luck with his wife, Angela--which would make one more from Miller!

By the way, my parents moved from the old 4th St. neighborhood about 3 years ago.  I drive by every now and then--it's not the same that's for sure!

Jeff,

I most of my memeories were around the band room and practice rooms playing jazz versions of smoke on the water. I went up above the auditorium several times too.

Tim Polzin has been living in Los Angeles for many years.  His mom told me a couple of years ago that Tim absolutely loves southern California and rarely comes back to M'town for visits.  Tim's love of theater continues--he is involved in various productions still today.  I have a hunch he'd make an amazing tour guide of Tinseltown for any classmate who went out for a visit.

I enjoyed being with Tim in a number of MHS plays, but my favorite was in junior high when he and I were brothers in Bill Cosby's "To Russell, My Brother, With Whom I Slept."  He also played Ace Freeley of KISS when we helped Theron Schuette get elected boy co-president at Miller Jr. High by being his entertainment on election day.  John Harkness (Gene Simmons), Tim Harvey (Peter Criss) and I (Paul Stanley) did full make-up and costume and a lip-sync in front of the whole school.  That was so much fun!  And we arranged to have guys above the auditorium who shoved hundreds of "Vote for Schuette" leaflets out of the light openings during the song.  Great effect!

Oh yeah--I remember the KISS days!  I was going with Jeff Wallace and he had tickets to the concert and I was terrified soemthing bad would happen--even had a dream that someone stabbed him!

I'm beginning to think that we girls in band at Miller really missed out on something--not knowing where this secret passageway was!  I remember band and how Ken Stubbe who played the tuba, would stare at me to make my face turn red!  One time he put my flute down the top of his tuba-yuck!  He was also my protector--It seemed someone always threatened to beat me up on the center path.  Ken would walk me through it after school!  Oh yeah, Donna McDowell always had my back too!  It was probably because I was such a prissy, wimp ass--ha!

Thanks, Mitch!  It was Tim Harvey.  He was quite a good artist.  I wonder if Mr. Statler is still at Miller.  I really liked his classes--Martha Peterson was also in the our 9th grade class--FUN!

Hello Tim and Fellow Millerites-

I'm just getting caught up in the class reunion forum (taking a break at work!).  That mod system in junior high was crazy---we all just went wherever we pleased.  I remember hanging out a lot in the band room because Mr. Francis let us all sit around and chat.   I think we were supposed to play a certain number of pieces each semester for Mr. Francis, but I don't remember ever playing anything.  I think Jenny, Angela and Susan M. updated the books for all of us--

Schools here in Houston are really strict--no one can leave for lunch with their friends and every moment is scheduled and supervised.  We were very fortunate to have so much freedom in M'Town.

Hi Sara!

Well, you certainly brought up a memory for me with that name.  I remember taking art class from him.  I'm sure he was just doing his part to toughen us up a bit, but I have to say he might have overdone it a bit.  Every time I walked up to the front of the room to hand in an assignment he'd say, "What are you trying to do, Breed?  Make my ulcers bleed?"

No kidding, Vince.  I spent so much time in the band room that I forgot other parts of the building even existed.  Jazz band and jazz band practice were some of my most favorite things.

Yes, skulking around above the auditorium happened more than a few times, but more rare was the trip Vince and I (pretty sure it was Vince; maybe one or two others) made underneath the auditorium floor.  Remember those alarm bell-shaped metal things under the seats on the floor?  They were vents to the sub floor.  All I recall seeing was enough dust start a farm and a few bits of flotsam that had fallen through those vent over the years.  And not much light.  I think we got there by going through some little door behind a bunch of junk in Mr. Beebe's office (shop; drafting).  You know, kind of like in Being John Malkovich.  :-)

I know Mr. Statler is not at Miller anymore--none of our teachers are but a few of our graduates are so maybe John Fiscus and Jenny Montover can help solve the Mr. Statler mystery.  Kelly, he scared the crap out of me too--remember when he would slam that paper cutter down and just miss his finger?

Shannon:  I had forgotten about that little demo.  I also just remembered that someone told me a few years after we were out of there that his little act went awry and he actually cut a finger.  That was probably a very effective demo!

Mitch-

I remember being in a play with you called "What's the matter with kids today?"  We were the parents, and you wore a bald wig with a little bit of hair on the sides.  I had to sing a solo, and I must have been so bad that the only thing that my mother and grandma had to say was that I projected well!  Hm.   I guess I wouldn't have had much success on "American Idol"

OK so months later I find this forum. Anyway I remember that well. Sorry Sara it was hilarious. We went and TP'd Ken Watts house.

As for Mr Statler he is alive and well and lives down the street from me.  Ms Garland was just such a free spirit. I Mr Wooster at an old neighborhood get together they had for Phil soon after he was diagnosed.

I have some of the best memories from Miller that I will never forget.  And Saras dad is priceless "way to rock that apple groaning." I remember Shannon getting a ring from Jeff in a bag of Kresges donuts..yum those were the best. There are just sooo many good times that were had by good friends that I could go on and on.

DEB

You and Rusty now that brings back some memories...us sitting at Kings laughing so hard you spit your shake all over me.  Do you remember us calling each other from pay phones at lunch from Miller and Lenihan? They probably don't even have pay phones in  schools anymore.

Oh I remember those donuts and of course the ring!  Boy I miss Jeff! Miss Graland was the coolest!  Wonder what ever happened to her?  How does Mr. Statler look--still kind of scary?

You are not the only one who just found this thread.  At the reunion meeting no one knew about it!  I have it on the Home page.  But there were Lenihan and Anson people there so let's hope they get going!

He looks the same. I still refer to him as "Mr" Statler and he calls me Miss Large. I always thought of him as the hippie type. He smoked during class. How I do not know. I moved to Conrad for my senior year and there he is a chaperon at our prom with BCL's Mrs Statler. Total mismatch.

Do you remember the fire extinguisher event that happend on the stage in the auditoruim

at miller? I thought it was pretty cool until I realized how much of a mess that it left behind,

and there would be no way possible to clean it without being discoverd.

Laugh Out Loud!!!  Do you remember the time we rode our bikes to the park that is almost to Albion ~ yes, to see Rusty!  I can't think of the name right now, but wow that was a ride!  That was a fun day!  Not exactly junior high, that was the summer between 9th and 10th grades, after biology and driver's ed was done!  In more ways then one that was probably one of the best summers of my growing up!  It was so transitional and WILD!
