Don Rodgers

Don A. Rodgers, 66, of Martinsville, passed from this life at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, January 31st, 2014 at the IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. He was born in Martinsville on June 11, 1947 to the late Herbert Eugene and Emmadell (Teeters) Rodgers.
Don spent his entire life in Martinsville and graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1965. After graduation he worked a short time at Indiana Bell before he was drafted on August 23, 1966. He would spend the next two years serving his country during the Vietnam War and being honorably discharged on August 22, 1968 as a SP4. Shortly after returning home, he met and married Linda Jane (Gabhart) Rodgers on August 15, 1970.
He retired from General Motors Truck and Bus in Indianapolis in 2001, where he had been employed for 32 years. He was also the co-owner, alongside his wife, of Morodge Flowers over the past 24 years. Don held memberships in the UAW Local #23 and the Martinsville American Legion Post #230. He took great pleasure in auto-racing, especially NASCAR, traveling, sports, people watching, socializing and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished reading to his grandsons, playing ‘Tickle Monster’ and being a jokester; his dry sense of humor, constant pranks and ‘one-liners’ will be greatly missed by all.
He leaves behind a host of loving family and friends including his family and friends including his wife of 43 years, Linda Jane Rodgers of Martinsville; daughters, Camea (husband, Keith) Wilson of Martinsville and Kristin (husband, Kenny) Snyder of Martinsville; sister, Brenda (husband, Mike) McFarland of Martinsville; grandsons, Jacob Burns and Clayton Wilson and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 3rd from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 4th from 10-11:00 a.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Rick Miller will conduct a service celebrating Don’s life on Tuesday, February 4th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and he will be laid to rest in Centennial Cemetery following a committal service with military honors.
