Edmund Manwell of Orinda, California passed away on January 31, 2010.

Thanks to Peggy Nelson Owens for sending me his obituary, published in the Appeal-Democrat in Marysville:

Edmund R. Manwell 67, of Orinda, California passed away on January 31, 2010. Ed was born in Yuba City, California on June 23, 1942.

He graduated from U.C. Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1967.

Ed was a true Renaissance man. His scope of knowledge was broad and deep. In addition to his love of law, he also enjoyed classical music and the San Francisco Opera. Ed was an avid collector, not just of books and music, but also of movie memorabilia and all things Anna May Wong.

His greatest passion was the game of golf. He once wrote "Golf teaches us about ourselves...We learn all of our strengths and all of our weaknesses...Thelove of golfenables us to forgive ourselves, to love ourselves...Golf is life."

He is survived by by his younger brother Philip. Ed will be truly missed missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the San Francisco Opera Association.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2010. 3:00pm-7:00pm at Trader Vic's located at 9 Anchor Drive, Emeryville, California.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp and Sullivan Funeral Directors.

Family and Friends,

I have absolutely no words to express the loss of Ed. I just learned of his passing this evening, 5/12/2010. I now know why he never responded to my request to be my friend on facebook.

You are in the best of company my friend, the very best! Inevitably we shall all see you again.
