Fetterman of Butte County. Fetterman was driving west on Lincoln Road near Humphrey Road when he lost control of his pickup for an unknown reason and hit a utility pole. The truck flipped over and landed in water next to a rice field. Fetterman apparently was trapped in the truck and tried to escape by kicking the windshield, which had been shattered, said Officer Jeff Larson of the Yuba-Sutter California Highway Patrol. An autopsy performed Monday showed that Fetterman drowned, said Sutter County Underhsheriff J. Paul Parker. Alcohol apparently was not a factor in the crash, said Parker. A resident of the area, Matt Cooper, tried unsuccessfully to pull Fetterman from the truck. Live power lines downed in the accident prevented paramedics from immediately reaching the truck. Fetterman's body was recovered after the vehicle was pulled from the water. Appeal-Democrat reporter Rob Young can be reached at 749-4710. You may e-mail him at ryoung@appeal-democrat.com.
