Rebecca (Becky) Navratil Kerns, age 50, of Mint Hill, N.C. (formerly of Maryville, Tenn.) lost her battle with cancer on December 20, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, N.C. She was the daughter of Robert N. and Nancy N. Navratil, both of Maryville. Becky was born on March 2, 1960. She graduated from Maryville High School in 1978 and went on to attend Draughons Jr. Business College in Knoxville, Tenn., where she received a two-year associate arts degree in business. Becky spent the latter part of her life in the Charlotte-Mint Hill area. Becky was an artist who owned and operated The Painted Cottage at the Black Lion in Charlotte, N.C., where she was a vendor. She loved attending antique shows, home shows, markets, and gift marts. Becky was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Becky was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her father. Survivors include husband, Glenn Kerns, son, Brad Kerns (age 15). both of Mint Hill. N.C., mother, Nancy Naylor Navratil; sister, Angie Walker; and brother, Joe Navratil, all of Maryville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Jackie Kerns of Charlotte N.C.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beth and Bryan Lawing of Iron Station, N.C.; nieces, Jessica Walker and Miranda Navratil, both of Maryville; nieces Meghan and Nicol Lawing of Iron Station, N.C.; and nephew, Jake Walker of Maryville. Becky wished to be cremated. Receiving of friends will be held on Thursday, December 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, N.C. A memorial service and receiving of friends will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church in Maryville, officiated by the Rev. Wendy Neff, with the receiving of friends immediately following the service. Donations may be made to the Susun G.
