In Memory

Griff Carfield - Class Of 1969

LEBANON, Neb. — Griff Carfield, age 68, of Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2019. Griff was born Sept. 13, 1950, in McCook, Neb., to Kenneth and Mary Majestie (Rayburn) Carfield. Griff graduated from McCook High School in 1969. He was drafted to the Vietnam War shortly after graduation, where he served in the Army. He was united in marriage to Delores Lehn of McCook on Dec. 19, 1970. To this union their four children were born, Robby, Lonny, Jimmy, and Kristy. Upon his discharge from the service, Griff enrolled in Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney Neb., before transferring to North Platte Community College and graduating with an associate degree in diesel mechanics. Griff was a jack-of-all trades, working for Parker-Hannifin, Valmont, Vitalex, in oil fields, welding and water well services, to name a few. In 1988, he moved to Alliance, Neb., to continue his career with Parker-Hannifin, where he met and married Debra (Jensen) Carfield on Sept. 22, 1988. With this union he welcomed two step-daughters, Shannon and Megan, whom he treated as his own. They moved to the McCook area in 1999 and made their home in Lebanon in 2000. One of the many things Griff enjoyed in life were children, from coaching ball to just watching them play on the playground. His grandchildren brought him much joy and happiness. He enjoyed teaching them the many traits that he had, which included singing the chicken song and learning to get a fire started in the wood burning stove by saying “burn baby burn.” Griff knew a little bit about everything, all you had to do was ask him and he would tell you. He was a hardworking man. The only thing he excelled at more than helping anyone that needed him was being ornery and picking on them in the process. He was smart and handy, could fix anything. Griff was always full of jokes and laughter, a kind man with an enormous heart. Gone too soon but will never be forgotten. Griff was proceeded in death by his grandparents; parents; sister, Conie; brothers, Harry and Ed; mother-in-law, Alberta Jensen; brothers-in-law, Rollie Jensen and Calvin Beck; and sister-in-law, Betty Day. Left to cherish his memory is wife, Debra, of the home; Robby Carfield of McCook; Lonny (Cherri) Carfield of McCook; Jimmy (Candy) Carfield of Trenton, Neb.; Kristy Stanton of Calvary, Kan.; Shannon (Frank) Ibero of Gering, Neb.; Megan Kempt (Dan Meitl) of Oberlin, Kan,; grandchildren, Joshlyn Austin, Stephen Kirk, Matthew Carfield, Daniel Schaffert, Samantha Carfield, Jordan Carfield, Emma Carfield, Piper Benavides, Ashlyn Ibero, Riley Ibero, Taylor Corbett, Zac Corbett and Zander Kempt and one great-grandchild; brothers, Kenard (Sherrie) of Culbertson, Neb., Rex (Donna) of Indianola, Neb., and Vony (Lynn) of McCook; sisters-in-law, Lucile Beck of Des Moines, Iowa, Helen (Ambrose) Pedroza) of Columbus, Neb., Collene (Richard) Murphy of McCook, Diane (Steve) Lickliter of Alliance, Neb., and Jaci (Mike) Peterson of Weissert, Neb.; brother-in-law, Ron (Lue) Jensen of Chadron, Neb.; plus countless nieces, nephews and friends.
