Gregory F. Zeman 
(June 8, 1955 - April 26, 2015) 

Gregory F. Zeman, age 59, of Washburn, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Golden Living Center Court Manor in Ashland. He was born on June 8, 1955 in Madison, the son of Carl and Hazel (Erickson) Zeman.

Greg was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 15. He graduated from McFarland High School in McFarland, WI in 1973. When he was a senior in high school, he was a starter on the McFarland High School basketball team that won the state championship that year. He attended the University of Wisconsin - Marshfield for 2 years and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1977 with a bachelors degree in Recreational Resource Management.

Greg worked as a seasonal law enforcement ranger at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota and at Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. He obtained permanent federal employment status as a correctional officer at the Oxford Federal Correctional Institution in Oxford, WI. Greg was a jail supervisor at Yosemite National Park in California from 1986 to 1992. He later worked at the Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi first as the assistant chief ranger and later became the chief ranger. He was chief ranger at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore from 2001 until his retirement in 2010. Greg married Constance Halverson on July 13, 1985 in Proctor, MN. He was a private pilot and also enjoyed photography, movies, building and repairing computers and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Constance Zeman of Washburn, a daughter, Kira (Eric) Kryzenske – McFarland, a son, Kurt (Dana) Zeman – Fort Hood, Texas and his mom, Hazel Zeman – McFarland.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with Pastor Paul Simmons officiating. Burial will take place at 3:00 P.M., Thursday at the Bethany Cemetery at 4938 Hermantown Rd, Hermantown, MN. 55811. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M., Thursday at the funeral home.

Gifts in memory of Greg may be made to the Mayo Clinic Brain Tumor Research in Rochester, MN. A gathering of family and friends will also be held in the near future and will also be announced in the Daily Press.
