Sandra Sherry, "In 1975-76 our family was fortunate to host an AFS student. Jurgen Paar came to McFarland from a small city in Austria, in the middle of the Alps. He was tall, cute, spoke some English, skiied better than anyone we knew, and could be utterly charming and a pain all at the same time. It wasn't long before we were no longer 'hosting' Jurgen, he was a part of the family and a dear brother. He made friends with everyone, and while here especially loved Academy D. His English improved so much that by spring he earned a lead role in Mr. Olson's play. After graduating from McFarland High School he returned to Austria, finished university and became a teacher. Today we learned that he recently passed away due to a sudden illness, he was only 53 years old."
