In Memory

Joel Marino - Class Of 1994

The Joel Marino Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in April 2010 at the Madison Community Foundation.  The fund supports students at McFarland High School and UW-Whitewater that are in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in music.  The scholarship is awarded in alternate years between both schools, with the first distribution having been awarded to a McFarland High School Student in May 2012.  We work directly through the McFarland Education Foundation and UW Whitewater Education Foundation, who find students that match the criteria previously established.
Wells Fargo Bank is the Trustee for the value of the fund assets, in accordance with MCF guidelines.  The distribution percentage is reviewed and determined annually by the MCF Board and typically ranges between four and five percent (4% to 5%).  That amount is then presented in the form of scholarship to the student chosen.    When the fund reaches $40,000 scholarships will be distributed to both schools annually.
The account was established with donations from other passthrough funds that were created in memory of Joel – Joel Marino Memorial Passthrough Fund and Joel Marino Memorial Music Passthrough fund.  Each of these accounts were created around February 2008.  Donations were accepted and ultimately the remaining portion of the reward fund was split into these accounts as well.  A total of $15,000 was given from those accounts to generate the start of the endowed Joel Marino Memorial Scholarship Fund.  A special thank you goes to Shannon Freeman and Amanda Miller, administrators on those accounts, for their support and donation to get the fund started!

The first “JAM on the Green” was put together in June 2008.  This golf outing continued into 2010 and 2011.  All proceeds have gone into the scholarship fund.  In 2012 we are changing the event to “J.A.M. Fest” and it will include a variety of events and much fun!??
