George Melvin Medchill, age 82, of McFarland and Oxford, Wisconsin, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 in Henderson, Nevada. He was born March 16, 1928, in Canby, Minnesota. He was the son of Melvin and Olena (Tangen) Medchill.
He graduated from Clarkfield High School (Clarkfield, Minnesota) in 1946 where he was the member of many sports teams. George attended South Dakota State where he was captain of the football team in the undefeated 1950 season.
He taught history and social studies for 15 years in Minnesota and Wisconsin. George also sold real estate and raised Greyhound dogs for racing. He enjoyed all sports, especially bowling and golf in his later life.
He is survived by four sons, Dr. Michael Medchill (Laurie) of Phoenix, Arizona, Patt Medchill (Sandy) of Geneva, Illinois, Dudley Medchill (Jan) of Henderson, Nevada, and Doak Medchill (Cindy) of The Woodlands, Texas. George is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn (Ketchum).
A private burial will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Westfield, Wisconsin.
