Greg was another classmate lost who was in the Langley musical department.

Greg and I sang together but what I remember Greg for was his amazing gifts on the piano - I really mean amazing!

He played in the Jazz Lab and from time to time he would goof off on the piano in our practice room and would blow us all away. (until Herb Cappel would come in and make us work)

My memory is not so good (someone help out) but I believe he actually taught piano and possibly lived in Chicago?

Rest well Greg.

If you go to this link there is a recent photo of Greg at the piano. http://www.edgargabriel.com/memorial.html

Below is a tribute to Greg by violinist Edgar Gabriel. "In 1998, Edgar released a CD with virtuoso pianist Greg Lawrence entitled, "The Gabriel-Lawrence Inventions". It is a collection of original renderings that challenges the listener to take an intriguing journey amidst classical, Latin, new age, jazz, rock, fusion and heavy metal inflections. Through radio airplay and live performances, Edgar and Greg have elevated listeners to new musical heights nationwide. This CD is available on Density Records.)"

"Greg Lawrence was the finest pianist that have I ever heard. I am extremely fortunate and honored to have been able to create and play new music with him during his short life.

If you had the opportunity to see him perform, or even better, play music with him, I think you may agree with me that you have been touched by genius.

I could not have asked for a better and more loyal friend than Greg. I will always miss him. I thank Greg for all the joy he brought to me and others through his music and his life." - Edgar Gabriel

I have fond memories of singing with Paige Phillips and Mary Woodward while Greg accompanied us on his piano.

Yes, Greg lived in Chicago most of his adult life. He'd previously worked in Pennsylvania.

He married young--to his kindergarten sweetheart-- and had two extremely intelligent sons. He and his wife owned a cleaning business which she ran while he primarily pursued his musical career. He had a long standing gig at one of the premier hotels in Chicago. After a while, he and his wife divorced and he became a single custodial father.

He later remarried and had a daughter.

Greg battled depression for many years. Tragically, the depression won.
