Charles Lawrence "Skeet" Huffman
Charles Lawrence "Skeet" Huffman, 48, lost his battle with MSA-C on Monday, July 19, 2010.
Skeet leaves his wife, Sandy; two daughters, Stephanie and Sara; parents, Charles L. and Louise Huffman, of Medford, Ore.; sisters, Roberta (Fred) Gorton and Peggy (Jim) Miller, and their families; including five nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews. Skeet had many aunts, uncles and cousins and will be greatly missed by his family. He became especially close with his Aunt Becki Douthit, who became one of his closest friends and a strong supporter during his battle with the effects of MSA-C. His father-in-law and good friend, George Boscawen, of Medford, Ore.; his grandparents, Carl and Bertha Holly, of Selma, Ore., and Charles and Nellie Huffman, of Shafter, Calif., preceded him in death.
Skeet was born in Grants Pass, Ore., on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1961. He lived his entire life in the Rogue Valley. Skeet was a truck driver, making his first runs with his dad as a young boy. As an adult, he was an independent owner/operator for most of his life. Most recently, he was employed by Lanier Brugh, transporting the U.S. mail between Medford and Portland. Skeet was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local Union 962.
Skeet will be forever remembered for his love of family and his generosity and willingness to help out whenever he could. Even as his physical body failed him, Skeet continued to amaze family and friends with his sharp, inquisitive, and analytical mind. He loved life and being able to sometimes act like a kid. Skeet enjoyed a good joke and playing tricks on those around him. His quick laughter and mischievous grin will be missed.
No service is planned; however, for anyone wishing to contribute to Skeet's memory, the family has requested that donations be made in honor of Charles Huffman to aid in research for the treatment of MSA-C at Vanderbilt University, PMB 407727, 2301 Vanderbilt Place, Nashville, TN, 37240.

I had not seen Charles since high school and had not given much thought about him until reading his obituary. He was an extremely hard-working man. I recall that he had paid "cash" for his first car: an exact replica of the Trans-Am that was featured in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit."
I have been waffling about going to this years' class reunion, but after reading his obituary, it made me realize I cannot turn the clock back. I had such pleasant thoughts recalling memories of Charles after reading his obituary that it helped me make my decision to go to the reunion dinner.

Skeeter and I grew up next door to each other. And yes, I remember that Trans-Am. He was so proud of it. He was a great guy and always had a smile on his face. I hadn't seen him or his parents in years, even though we're still in the same neighborhood. I'm so sorry for their loss, and also for his new family that I wasn't fortunate enough to meet. You will all be in my thoughts.
