I knew Steve in grade school at Ruch. He had some amazing luck in his earler days. One of his adventures was  on Starr Creek just under the bridge where the road heads up to Applegate Lake. He and another classmate had noticed Steelhead were working their way up the creek to spawn, and were in fairly shallow water. Getting some hand tools (rake, spade, etc) they went back to acquire some fish through less than normal means.

Once they were setup with their fishing gear, they heard a voice say "Hello" from the bridge. It was the Game Warden, who asked them what they were doing. In typical Steve fashion he said they were "helping" the fish upstream.

You need to understand that he was normally very believable. On this day the Warden not only believed them, but called the Mail Tribune and they came out to do a story on these local boys helping out the wildlife, which was published in the paper.
