Ian was the fourth child born to Fred and Madge Howell; siblings Jordy, Brenda and Peggy were all older.
After graduating from MUCC Ian worked for three winters in Alberta and B.C. for San Juan Tools (oil and gas exportation). In the summer he helped his dad and brother on the family farm and eventually rented land of his own. In 1984 he bought a house in Melfort and started work at Dairy Producers so he could take a more active part in farming.
Ian loved touring on his Honda Goldwing. His last big tour was to BC in July 1984 to visit family and friends in the Okanagan. He also enjoyed buzzing the neighbours in his colourful ultra light glider. Ian was killed in a car accident on Highway 6 across from the Melfort Weigh Scales. The funeral procession to the cemetery led by five of his friends on motorcycles is a testament to the love and respect he had from all who knew him. He was with us for such a short but memorable time. His sisters summed up his life in three simple words: he “lived, loved, laughed”.
