Harold "Duke Blue" was initially married to another deceased classmate, Joyce Ann Livingston Matthews.
How did he get his nickname: Harold was part of a "street corner Lauderdale Sub, 'wannabe-doo-wop' group" -- Willie B. Hammond, BTW '64; Levelle Hammond, BTW '65; Willie McGhee, BTW '64, and of course, Harold. Their favorite song was "The Duke of Earl" by 60's R&B singer, Gene Chandler. Because Harold was the leader, guess who became "Duke!" Now we can only surmise where the 'Blue" came from, but just one look at the beautiful, "Blue"-black melanin "Duke" was blessed with -- and we have a good idea why he became affectionately known as "Duke Blue!"
Rest in peace, "Duke!"
