By binding image and desire, glamour gives us pleasure, even as it heightens our yearning. It leads us to feel that the life we dream of exists, and to desire it even more. I think glamour has a genuine appeal, has a genuine value. I'm not against glamour. But there's a kind of wonder in the stuff that gets edited away in the cords of life.

~Virginia Postrel~

In the key of "Wonder", Happy Birth Anniversary to you Bonnie! To be seventy years young is sometimes far more cheerful and hopeful than to be forty years old (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.). Thirty-eight years ago everyone was singing the lyrics to "The Glamorous Life", a song written by Prince, recorded by singer/percussionist Sheila E. and produced by both. The song has lyrics which reflect an attitude of suspicion where one believes the future is bleak and that people are acting only out of self interest.  The moral and cultural decline and the materialism of the song's main character, referred to in the third person, "wants to lead a glamorous life", although she is aware that "without love, it ain't much". By virtue of his love for you and  for the expressed love from your family and friends, I thank God, who has blessed you to achieve this milestone. Over the years, you've added to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge. Such characteristics didn't allow you to get caught up in the glamorous life, but you probably have taken a "Glamor Shot" makeover to support some charitable event...lol..
While searching for a descriptive word for your personality, I stumbled upon the word "Genuine", with a little brainstorming assistance. An attitude of suspicion, relative to living the glamourous life wouldn't appear to be a part of your character. South African-born Australian businesswoman Gail Kelly, put it this way...I have a very genuine care for individuals; I have a very genuine sense of the power of individuals to make a difference, a very genuine belief that people matter, a very genuine belief of wanting the very best for individuals. You can choose not to sit on the fence. You can choose not to criticise. You must stand as guard at the door of your own mind and choose to be positive. Very descriptive of your genuine character. Thank you for not sitting on the fence and for extending a very genuine belief of wanting the very best for us, your individual friends. If you are insecure, then you can't be friends with anyone. I can't stand fake people. I can feel it when someone feigns it. I always seek one quality in my friends - that they should be genuine. I don't like being over-friendly, as people could take me for granted. The only thing that comes naturally to me is my energy. What motivates me is that the best is yet to come (Jacqueline Fernandez).
I found the reason for your motivation in 1 Peter 1:6-7. The Message (MSG) version states; I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory....As you choose to celebrate today, or not, may your genuine motivation continue to be centered around when Jesus wraps this all up, your faith. Remember that age is not how old you are, but how many years of fun you've had (Matt Maldre). Billy Graham once said; Old is authentic, Old is valuable, Old is genuine. If wrinkles must be written on our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit never grows old (James Garfield). Today you are an authentic, valuable and genuine old friend, but young at heart. I wish you a Jeff Ryan type of day. May the "Duality" operations of your heart chambers, combine daily to make you a "Sentimental Soul"....enjoy your day and stay safe my friend....

One should see the world, and see himself as a scale with an equal balance of good and evil. When he does one good deed the scale is tipped to the good - he and the world is saved. When he does one evil deed the scale is tipped to the bad - he and the world is destroyed. Further, there are things of which the mind understands one part, but remains ignorant of the other; and when man is able to comprehend certain things, it does not follow that he must be able to comprehend everything. ~Maimonides~

Surprising Side Effects Bananas Have on Belly Fat
Erich Barganier - ©© Provided by Eat This, Not That!

When the time comes to get in shape and burn off some stomach fat, picking the right foods to incorporate into your weight loss regimen proves crucial. Even if an item appears healthy on the surface, it might hold some nutritional secrets that hamper weight loss around your midsection. When you have to devise a new weekly menu designed to burn fat, bananas are one of the best foods to melt belly fat fast.

According to the Mayo Clinic, we have a ton of reasons to love bananas, especially when we need to diet. The fruit has a lower GI impact than many other fruits, provides a solid amount of fiber to keep us feeling full, and serves up the perfect cocktail of vitamins and minerals with virtually no fat. This fruit really shines when you need to shed some weight off your midsection, and knowing exactly how they affect your body helps us form the perfect attack strategy to melt belly fat. To get the lowdown on how bananas help us shave off some unwanted midsection poundage, we talked to a handful of dietitians and medical experts to learn exactly what happens when we incorporate bananas into your daily eating plan. Read on to learn how bananas can help melt stubborn belly fat you've been wanting to get rid of.
1. Bananas increase our gut flora.
When you need to start watching your weight and burn off some belly fat, getting your internal flora balanced can start the entire weight loss journey off right. Bananas do just that by helping introduce good bacteria to our stomachs and getting our bodies prepared to lose some weight. "Bananas are high in prebiotic fibers and have been shown to increase the number [of] bifidobacteria in the gut," says Kate Netz, RDN, LD. "Research shows that healthy levels of bifidobacteria can aid in weight loss and improve metabolic health."

2. Bananas can curb cravings.
"When you work or live in a stressful environment, which is now the case of most Americans, your cortisol levels are high, which makes you crave sugar-dense food," says Dr. Sandra El Hajj. "This is one of the main reasons why people start gaining weight and eating uncontrollably sweets and candies. Bananas help prevent these cravings by first offering the body high Magnesium levels that can help control your stress levels as well as make you feel full."

3. Boost your fiber intake.
Everyone has heard some extra fiber in our lives can help us shed pounds, and thanks to banana's particularly high fiber count, we can feel full and avoid overeating. "Bananas are an excellent source of fiber, and each banana contains a high amount compared with the number of calories," says Dr. Don Grant."Fiber takes a long time for the body to suggest, which can help you to feel full for longer. By including a lot of fiber in your diet it will stop you from feeling hungry and reduce the amount that you're eating."

4. Improves insulin sensitivity.
You may have heard that a banana's sugar content can do some damage, especially when you need to cut excess carbs out of your diet. While bananas do contain some sugar, they also help improve your insulin sensitivity in dieters who don't have diabetes, making it a great deterrent to the disease while helping us achieve the nutritional balance we need to shed belly fat. "Bananas improve insulin sensitivity, which helps the body process glucose more efficiently, thereby reducing weight," says  Trista Best, RD for Balance One Supplements. "Bananas are an excellent source of resistant starch, which has a positive impact on insulin resistance."

5. Makes our exercise regimen easier.
Nothing can work stomach fat off like the proper set of physical exercises, but if we don't supply our body with what it needs, our efforts could be for nothing. Thanks to bananas, we get the proper nutrition to keep our workout regimens moving and balanced, ensuring some real results. "Your workouts may be more efficient due to fewer muscle cramps as well," says Best. "Muscle cramps can be associated with an electrolyte imbalance, especially from potassium, and bananas are packed with this nutrient."

6. Reduce absorption of sugar.
While yellow bananas provide certain benefits, unripe bananas should really stand in the spotlight as you work on flattening your stomach. "Unripe bananas are high in resistant starch and low sugar," Dr. Madathupalayam Madhankumar said. "This starch is resistant to [digestion] and acts like fiber. It will reduce the absorption of sugar as well. Thus it helps with weight loss." "The greener the banana, the higher its resistant starch content (it turns into simple sugars as it ripes)," Silvia Carli, RD added. "Resistant starches help control carbohydrates metabolism improving blood sugar control and contribute to digestive health as they feed the gut bacteria in our gut. You may also want to know that green bananas can be pretty bitter and are definitely less sweet. Both green and ripe bananas contain the same amount of vitamins and minerals."

In God's family, there are no outsiders, no enemies. You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. The God who existed before any religion counts on you to make the oneness of the human family known and celebrated. And every human being is precious.

Congratulations Ruby, on the official day of your Birth Anniversary. Age is a state of mind for most individuals, so Happy 70th! You've become a real phenomenon, by achieving a milestone, defined as being the number of years in a full lifetime of traditionally-expected duration. The achievement of this much anticipated milestone is a direct reflection of your theme "A'int God Good", for the celebration I attended with you, this past weekend. Although the majority of attendees were family, I felt honored to be among the individuals invited. As Desmond Tutu stated; In God's family, there are no outsiders, no enemies. The God who existed before any religion counts on you to make the oneness of the human family known and celebrated. I felt like I was being celebrated as a member of your family from the very beginning. No man or woman can be strong, gentle, pure, and good, without the world being better for it and without someone being helped and comforted by the very existence of that goodness. It is while you are patiently toiling at the little tasks of life that the meaning and shape of the great whole of life dawn on you. The true way to be humble is not to stoop until you are smaller than yourself, but to stand at your real height against some higher nature that will show you what the real smallness of your greatness is (Phillips Brooks).
Maya Angelou described a chosen journey that you embarked upon some time ago and one that you are faithfully negotiating  today. She once said; I'm convinced of this: Good done anywhere is good done everywhere. I know that I've been guided by God. I am obedient, I was very blessed to have family and friends, but particularly family, who told me I was not only all right, I was just right, so I believe that my brain is a good one, and it's lasting me very well. Maya wasn't an evangelist as you are, but she was a writer like yourself, and obedient. The remarks from your family members and guest concerning your noble personal qualities and dedication, reflect the well trodden path of steps ordered for your mission. As a writer, Maya explains your mission, when she says; "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. You are the sum total of everything you've ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot - it's all there. Everybody born comes from the Creator trailing wisps of glory. We come from the Creator with creativity. I think that each one of us is born with creativity. I know that when I pray, something wonderful happens. Not just to the person or persons for whom I'm praying, but also something wonderful happens to me. I'm grateful that I'm heard"... Just reading her words, embodies your remarkable comments to everyone in attendance at your celebration. Continue to create your trailing wisps of glory, your creative writing and most importantly, your wonderful prayers for others. I'm grateful to have been in your audience and to have heard you.
No one who has come to true greatness has not felt in some degree that his life belongs to the people, and what God has given them he gives it for mankind. Make your creed simply and broadly out of the revelation of God, and you will keep it to the end. Life comes before literature, as the material always comes before the work. The hills are full of marble before the world blooms with statues (Phillips Brooks). As you receive the blessings of favor, grace and mercy today and the days ahead, I wish you an "Andre Cavor" type of day. Don't take off your sneakers as you continue on your dedicated "Road Trip". "Without a Doubt", you'll need them. Don't get older just to get wiser. If you get older, you will be wiser, I believe that - if you dare. But get older because it's fun! The most important thing I can tell you about aging is this: If you really feel that you want to have an off-the-shoulder blouse and some big beads and thong sandals and a dirndl skirt and a magnolia in your hair, do it. Even if you're wrinkled (Maya Angelou). She just had to have the last words.....enjoy your day and stay safe my friend....thanks again for the invite.....

Good Evening Classmates!

Happy Birthday Rubystine!  It seems like you had a well-deserved and loving tribute! Thanks for sharing it with us, Kenneth.

Looking at your pictures and your message, "Ain't God Good!" became a shouting moment.  Yes, He is!!!  I met you and many others in the seventh grade at Porter Jr. High.  Of course, I already had my LaRose Elementary buddies.  We had come from many walks in life - some more fruitful than others.  But as Mabel said in her book, we didn't know we were Poor!   But, Look at us NOW!!!

As I read the wonderful stories shared by Kenneth of all the amazing things that the Class of 1970 have accomplished AND Continue to Accomplish, I am overwhelmed with pride!  It couldn't have been easy.

And what really gives me a source of pride is that this success has permeated throughout the class, not just the ones who you expected to succeed, but there seems to have been "Equal Opportunity" upward mobility.

"The First of the Seventies, Our Goal is to Succeed" - We were listening!

Growing up in my church, we had one lady who shouted every Sunday.  We made ready for her to run out of the church, shouting, "I'm happy, I'm happy this morning, I'm Happy!"  That's me this evening.  Please indulge.

When I look back over my life... To God be the Glory!

By loving yourself, you're going to be a happy person. A lot of people don't like themselves for whatever reason. I remember once in junior high school, on a Friday, my mom came home from work and said to my brother and I, 'You know, between us, we have only 27 cents, but we have food in the refrigerator, we have our little garden out back, and we're happy, so we are rich.' ~John Paul DeJoria~

Greetings Warriors! I pray that each of you have been consistently receiving the "Blessings of Abraham" over the first four months of 2022. For those of you who have returned to "In Person" worship services, I'm sure you're ecstatic. Heavenly gifts of grace and favor, have genuinely been bestowed upon those who have had birth anniversaries. Not everyone has been blessed to reach a much anticipated milestone of 70 years. Prayers of sympathy and remembrance are still to be uttered for our classmates who have transitioned, as well as those who've experianced the transition of a beloved family member. Prayers for the physical healing of classmates is yet required. To each of you who contributed financially to the subscription renewal of our website, sufficient words are not available to express the level of gratitude we share. Over the next week, a cashiers check will be presented to the BTW Class of 2022, in the amount of one-thousand dollars. As specified by the Financial Secretary and the Senior Class Advisor, these funds will off-set a limited amount of their graduation fees.
Thank you Alberdeen, Audrey, Bonnie, Curtis, Estella, Felippa, James, Jimmie, Joycelyn, Larry, Margie, Marsha, Patricia, and Robbin, for taking the time to sign in and post a message on the forum in 2022. Website statistics reveal that we've had quite a mixture of private and public messages sent and received. For those of you who simply go straight to the forum without signing in, we're grateful to you also. Still trying to figure out a method to capture that data. Some of you have unexpectedly received a message from me commending you for your visit. That's a result of the data. Should anyone need a refresher or a tutorial on how to sign in and make a post to the website, please use the following link to send a message; https://www.classcreator.com/Memphis-TN-B-T-Washington-1970/class_contact.cfm. Copy and paste it into your browser. Once the website appears, place your cursor on the "Contact Us" dropdown menu, complete the blanks and send your message. You'll receive a response in a timely fashion. Each day, an attempt is made to keep the posted contents appealing, rational, engaging and entertaining.
Margie, we will always indulge your "Equal Opportunity" words of joy for your classmates, and please stay forever happy, as you look back over your life... To God be the Glory for us all! Words of encouragement are welcome from all classmates. Ruby, my way with words began when I attended Hamilton and Alonzo Locke Elementary, Porter Junior and BTW High Schools. I thank the many teachers who taught me how to read and those who caused me to initiate research for preparation to do this work. Using quotes is my favorite method to relate a message to everyone who reads from the website. So I'll close with others; "Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble"(Yehuda Berg). Our best thoughts come from others. We do not yet possess ourselves, and we know at the same time that we are much more. We are symbols, and inhabit symbols (Ralph Waldo Emerson). I choose to use my words to constructively encourage everyone. May they continue to have the energy, power and the ability to help, to heal and to keep me humble.....

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by Marsha Burns
Take a mental inventory of where you have been and where you are today. Then, let go of all condemnation that had it roots in where you fell short or did not live up to your own expectations. Forgive those who insulted or hurt you in any way, and begin again with a clean slate. What is done is done! Leave the past behind and move forward with renewed resolve to fulfill your purpose and to live righteously. Psalm 84:5-7 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.

 T H O U G H T   F O R   C O N S I D E R A T I O N
If there is one thing you can count on in your life, it's that your path will not always be easy. God is not asking you to be anything other than what he's made you, as long as you submit to how he has made you, to how you relate to other people who he has made different than you. God has established what man is supposed to do, and he expects man to do it his way and not a way independently of him. And when you do things independently of him, you have consequences you don't want to bear.

We have the finest military in the world, an elite group of men and women who continue to be a tremendous source of national pride by routinely putting their lives on the line to protect our freedom. With courage and character, American soldiers continue to put themselves on the line to defend our freedom, and so many have paid the ultimate sacrifice.      I'm kind of a subtle person. Gardening is a working meditation for me. It helps me remember process, and it helps me remember patience. I come from a family that has grown their own food from well into times of slavery, provided for themselves and people around them. So I found, through conversations about the earth and about the house with my neighbors, a lot of common ground. I think living in a way that's close to nature makes you feel like that - makes you feel how thin the veil is between life and death.

That's true wellness - being well from inside out. Sleep more. I don't think anyone understands how important it is. Surprising Side Effects Salmon Has On Your Immune System
Cheyenne Buckingham ©© Provided by Eat This, Not That!

If you're at a restaurant and you're between chicken with a side of steamed veggies or salmon as the main, we recommend opting for the fatty fish. Especially if you're trying to strengthen your immune system. Believe it or not, salmon is loaded in vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that all help to improve immune function. Whether you prefer it smoked and on a bagel with cream cheese, or grilled and sitting next to roasted potatoes and asparagus, there are so many ways you can reap all of the fatty fish's immune-boosting benefits.

1. Gives you a healthy boost of vitamin D.

Vitamin D is essential for proper immune function and salmon happens to be one of the few food sources that pack a healthy dose of it—especially wild-caught salmon. Just half a fillet of sockeye salmon (198 grams), there is 815 IU (international units) of vitamin D, per the USDA. For context, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that the average adult consume between 600-800 IU of vitamin D daily. Still, several studies suggest consuming at least 1,000 IU of the vitamin each day for optimal health. In fact, you can safely consume as much as 4,000 IU of vitamin D daily, which may be especially beneficial for those who live in areas where there isn't as much sunlight.

2. Packs vitamin B6.

Salmon also provides a good source of vitamin B6, which as the Cleveland Clinic points out, is "vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system." Fatty fish options happen to have one of the highest concentrations of vitamin B6 available in food. Whether you boil, sauté, or bake the fish, there are numerous ways you can reap the benefits it has to offer.

3. Provides a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids.

When you're looking for a good that's rich in omega-3 fatty acids, look no further than salmon. Salmon is rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which is a type of omega-3 fatty acid, which is believed to reduce blood triglycerides and even harmful LDL cholesterol particles. In addition to keeping your heart healthy, omega-3 fatty acids provide a host of other health benefits. As Sydney Greene, MS, RD, and member of our medical board explained to Eat This, Not That! in a previous article, "Omega-3s make up the structure of cells in our body. We also need them for hormone production, immune function, and heart and lung support."

4. Offers a good source of magnesium.

Finally, salmon also contains magnesium, a mineral that plays a key role in supporting your immune system. For reference, men need between 400-420 milligrams of magnesium each day whereas women require 310-320 milligrams of the mineral each day. A 3-ounce serving of farmed Atlantic salmon contains about 26 milligrams of magnesium, per the Cleveland Clinic. While this may not seem like a lot, if you pair it with a 1/2 cup of brown rice and avocado slices, you then add an additional 86 milligrams of the mineral to your meal.

The greatest gift you can give or receive is to honor your commitment.

It makes you a person of self worth.

Greetings Warriors!!!! The withdrawal of funds has been completed and a cashiers check for One-Thousand Dollars has been sent via FedEx to the BTW Financial Secretary, Geni Brown. It should be in her possession as you read this post. Alfred North Whitehead was an English mathematician and philosopher and his quote and profession explains our success. Alfred stated; "Ideas won't keep; something must be done about them. Speak out in acts; the time for words has passed, and only deeds will suffice. No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude". (2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind).
It began as an idea to simply renew the website subscription. After an overwhelming amount of support, the idea blossomed into an act of charity to those who are following in our footsteps. (2 Corinthians 9:7 - Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver). Although it's only seventy-six graduating seniors within the Class of 2022, your financial support helped us to achieve a phenomenal successful outcome. Thank you all so much for your help and dedication...to the website renewal fundraiser and to our beloved alma mater. (1 Thessalonians 1:2 - We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers)....May the next fundraiser, by whomever, become just as successful.....

Happiness in this world, when it comes, comes incidentally. Make it the object of pursuit, and it leads us a wild-goose chase, and is never attained. Follow some other object, and very possibly we may find that we have caught happiness without dreaming of it.

Received from Larry Milligan, via "The Class of 1972"....

Dear Fellow Warrior Alumni! The Class of ’72 is hosting our 50th Year Reunion this September 22nd-24th. In honor of this magnificent milestone, we are asking your class, our friends, to purchase at least one table of 6 for $300 to our banquet on Saturday, September 24th. If you find that more than 6 would like to attend, we will be able to accommodate the request as well. This will be a perfect opportunity for us to again mix, mingle and have a lot of fun with each other. Please contact Adrienne Karney Lynn by April 30th at 901-412-5120 or at adklynn@comcast.net if you have an interest or any questions. PLEASE let us hear from you. We want you there to share in this momentous Black-Tie Affair with us! BTW Class of ‘72 “Warriors for Life (W4L)”

Please contact Larry Milligan, our designated coordinator for The Class of 72......
