Stephen P. Mullins, age 64, died on Friday, August 6, 2021, at his home in Star Prairie, WI. He was born the son of Richard and Theresa Mullins on September 12, 1956, in Saint Paul, MN. Steve grew up in Mendota Heights, MN and attended Brady High School. He graduated from Henry Sibley High School, class of 1974. Following high school, he graduated from St Paul Technical College. Steve worked in the flexible packaging printing industry starting with Champion Packaging in Minneapolis. He continued in the field for 43 years and was highly respected by so many. His career brought him to workplaces in Boscobel (American National Can) and Tomah (Exopack), WI and then retired to Star Prairie, WI in 2019. More important than his very successful career was his devotion to his family. He and Debra (Braeker) celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in May of this year. He and Deb raised two children and enjoyed creating memories with their kids, siblings, parents, nieces, nephews and many friends. Steve was a history buff who loved reading and completing challenging crossword puzzles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin and the shack. Steve was energetic, funny, and intelligent. You just never knew when some crazy, hilarious, highly relevant comment would come out of his mouth. He was always paying attention and looking for an opportunity to make a connection with his family and friends while using humor as a tool. He was also caring and generous, always knowing the right time to comfort versus joke around. This ability of his earned him the name Uncle Goofy with his nieces and nephews. When the grandkids came along, both he and Deb became Grandma and Grandpa Goofy which have been honored titles since then. Steve taught his family and friends by example how to live every day to its fullest. His project list was always lengthy and he spent a lot of his time tinkering in the garage or his shop. Those hours often resulted in sharing his love for numerous hobbies with family and friends. His sense of adventure encouraged others to try new things, including convincing some of his family to skydive with him just 15 days prior to his passing! Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Theresa; and niece, Sarah Leonard. He is survived by his wife, Deb; children, Jenny (Ryan) Holmberg and Stephen J.; grandchildren, Erin and Owen Holmberg; siblings, Richard (Cleone), Michele (Jim) Myrick, Maureen (John) Maloney, Mary Beth (John) Ruhland, and Margaret (Eric) Meyer; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Steve and his family want to extend their thanks to the wonderful care team from Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin and Lakeview Homecare & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please plant a sugar maple tree to honor his love of tapping trees and making maple syrup.
