Claudia Burkhart

Claudia Jean Burkhardt passed away suddenly in Afton, Wyo. on Tuesday, Jan 26, 2016.

She was born Feb. 2, 1949, in Meriden, Ct., the daughter of the late Jean and Leigh Burkhardt. In the late 70's, she traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo. to hike and ski, and fell in love with the beautiful wilderness. She made Wyoming her home. In addition to reading, sewing, and cross country bicycling her passion was cooking. She ran "Catering by Claudia" from her home in Wilson, Wyo. for many years. In her retirement, she moved with her beautiful Russian Wolfhounds to Bedford, Wyo. She actively volunteered for "friends of Thane Library", was an aide in the elementary schools, and delivered food for Meals on Wheels. Claudia was also a proud member of The Jackson Cow-belles. Claudia eventually moved to Afton, Wyo. to be with her beloved friend, Jerry Hall.

She leaves behind her best friend and sister, Shelley Tylec; her brother-in-law, William Tylec of Waterbury; her brother, Leigh Burkhardt and Barbara Perzan of Haddam.

Private memorial for family only will be held in June.

So sorry to hear about Claudia "Corky's" passing. I remember fun times growing up in Girl Scouts. I am glad she enjoyed such a full life in so beautiful a part of the country. Condolences to the family.

So sad to hear of Claudia's passing. The last time I saw Claudia was August 15, 1969. By chance she wound up at the same camping area at the Woodstock Festival as I did. That night I came to the bonfire at the center of the camp site and noticed a tall, beautiful young woman, looking much too elegant and well  put together for our scruffy surroundings. It was Claudia, whom I hadn't seen since High School. I am glad to know she had an interesting creative life in a beautiful environment.

Yes, I remember sleepovers too... And her beautiful laugh and fun-loving nature! (Did not know she headed to the West as I did for awhile...) Rest in Peace Claudia.

I rmember being with Claudia on the day she got her driver's license... fun night, but scary driving, especially coming over and down that big hill where there were a lot of accidents!!! Love you, Claudia...

Very sorry to hear of Claudia's passing. It sounds as though she lived a good life but too short for sure.
