Yeah we are having one; last I heard it was going to be this coming October! Not 100% sure though...

Anyone heard anything on the reunion?

Has anyone looked into Maggianos banquet room as a possibility if a location has not been chosen yet? It is located at North Park and costs about $20 per person.

Any more updates?

I work with Kristi "Hinsely" Gregory and she planned the 97' reunion for her class, and the 98' reunion for her husbands class. I know they got TONS of people together for the homecoming game (in October-ish) and then after the game all went out for drinks at a bar. Then Saturday of the same weekend they all did the dinner and drinks thing. I can email her and ask her where they did it and about how much it was a person... just so we can have an idea of reunions past... If you guys want to get an idea of that.... Just let me know! Email my regular email.

Hey also... I'm currently helping my cousin plan her wedding so I have prices on several different venues already and caterers. Not sure if you guys just want to rent a facility and have food catered or if you are wanting to do like a fancy dinner at a hotel or something. There's this place in Garland that is absolutely beautiful... it's called The Atrium. There are lots of places that I already have prices for... Do we know how many people we are thinking may attend?? I don't even know how many we graduated with... like 500 something... do we plan on 400 people (this would account for people not showing up and the ones that do bringing spouses) or do we think more than 400??? If you guys can give me an idea of what you are looking for I can check into a few things! I don't mind! I know Staci has a new baby and has her hands full.

I'm going to be honest. Is a full scale reunion necessary? Thanks to this site and Facebook we've been able to keep up with many people. I know for a fact that North has recently been renovated with a new science wing and an expanded cafeteria (not to mention the addition of F and E wings, new band hall, and additional gym after we all graduated). They are supposed to be updating the auditorium as well pretty soon. What if we had a tour of the North campus then attended the homecoming game on 10/16/09? During the campus tour there can be refreshments in the gym?
I just think that this close to October planning a traditional reunion is cutting it close. My husband's 20th reunion was last year and we had already paid for and received the tickets for the October reunion the May before.
We had roughly 400 in our graduating class and there is not nearly half of that number on here or Facebook. Unless someone is able to find everyone, anything big will not be possible any way.
Don't they have companies that take care of all this for us?

Yes Lydia we know it will be smaller than normal... I think Staci had so much going on with the baby coming and all that it all kind of just crept up on her and now it's just a few short months away... however, on the North facebook page we have over 250 99'grad friends and we have been discussing just meeting for a game one Friday night.. having some drinks afterwards and then having a lunch on that Saturday instead of dinner. Several of us including Staci have mentinoned trying to keep it very casual and low key.. nothing expensive or extravegant. We have discussed two dates and will be letting everyone know VERY soon the date and open the website up for people to purchase a ticket. We are hoping to get around 100 people to show up... if there are more then that would be AWESOME... but again because Staci didn't have much help and she JUST had her baby things kind of just crept up. We WILL FOR SURE have a reunion and we will let you guys know ASAP.

which event should we bring the kiddos to?

The lunch idea and the game seem fine. I'm sure that anyone who might want to go out for drinks later that night will be able to. I'm totally down for that. If you are interested in going to a bar to hang out and catch up even more on the night of the lunch, let me know. We can start throwing ideas around on that as well.

I'm up for going out after the game!!! Just don't know any bars in Dallas.

Shouldn't we be doing something like this? This seems like a traditional reunion. I really really don't want to be rude, so I've held this in, but I think our reunion should be similar to this one. If there is any reason why this can't happen please let me know. I'm just not sure that we'll get a good turnout for lunch on Halloween weekend.

And Lydia, I do get your point about the Facebook thing, but I would also like to chat and laugh with some old friends that I haven't seen in a while. So I'm still in favor of a reunion.

Maybe we should crash the '79 reunion. I had a similar post up about having it on Halloween and only having a lunch, but I deleted it after a couple of days because I didn't want to come across rudely either.

Now that it's not only me, here I go.

Halloween is a down right bad date. People have kids to take trick or treating, other parties to go to, etc, etc, etc. Also, I think because of this date/weekend people that do not live within the metroplex will be much less likely to show.

Sure, the game is a great idea, but with a traditional Saturday night reunion, people that came in town early would possibly end up going to a game anyhow. Same goes for lunch on Saturday. Many FACEBOOK friends would probably gather for lunch before going to the main event later that night.

Also, what is included in the $30 fee?

Simple but good.

I happened to be at Primo's when another reunion was going on, and they had the entire second floor overlooking the lake reserved.

From what I have been told 10yr reunion plans are lame and 20yr reunion plans are awesome. The only issue I have is that tickets are $30 to go eat lunch at Bass Pro. It would have been cheaper to rent out a pavillion at a park where everyone could bring their kids and a picnic lunch.

Lenae Payne (Anderson)

I do not want to come off as being rude either. We hope that everyone that comes has a great time. Unfortunately, many people did not think about expressing their opinions on the NMHS Class of 1999 Facebook page until it was too late. We did open up a vote and posted it several places so that many people would be able to give their input. We honestly could have used your opinions a few weeks ago. I wish it was easy to make everyone happy, but unfortunately it's not.
The problem with having a "traditional" reunion is that it is expensive and no one started planning this until 3 weeks ago. Glenn, Melanie and I jumped in to help Staci because she was overwhelmed with having a new baby and planning the event. We had to work with what we have. We did kick around a few ideas, like a picnic or "fancy" event, but the price is a huge factor. A lot of our classmates just can't afford the $60+ tickets for themselves and a spouse/date. We just do not have the funds to book a "fancy" facility at this late of a date. We understand that some people are just not going to be happy, but it may work well for others. My husband was in the 98 class so I know a little about their reunion. They booked a "fancy traditional" facility and they had approx. 100 people show up because of the price. They did not plan around a game and that caused people to complain also.
Rossi - You referenced the 30 year reunion. I am sure that we will have a super fancy 20 and 30 year reunion. At that point in our lives, hopefully all of our classmates will have the funds to spend on a night out. I know it does not seem like much, but we do have several single parents and unemployed people in our class.
Bottom line - We can't all be 100% happy. Even if we changed the date there would be other people complaining. I hope that everyone still comes. Even though we have Facebook, it would still be nice to see everyone and hang out for a few hours.
The $30 will include a nice lunch of fish or chicken a dinner salad and a side item. We will also have a cake and decorations.

I completely understand the monetary aspect, and the only reason that I posted the 30 year reunion example was because, to be honest, that's always been my vision of what a reunion should be like. But I wouldn't want for people to not show up because it is too expensive. That would be the worst thing that could happen.

I guess I just wanted to clarify that this is our best option. If the three or four of you who planned it out think that it's the best thing for us, then I am with you. I do appreciate all that you have done for us.

See you at the reunion,

Michael

I would like to know what event should we brings kids to? Nobody answered me!!!

08/11/09 05:23 PM #26

Kristina Arakelian (McCaleb)

I think the only kid appropriate part of the reunion would be the football game. (In my opinion).

I understand about the money issues. And the venue looks fine for what people have requested. I still just do not think Halloween day is a good day. I know there have been fall festivals planned for that day all throughout the metroplex. Not to beat the dead horse of the out-of-towners.

I just looked at the facebook page. I guess if more people had noticed people talking on it or if a message was sent out then maybe there would have been better response. The only feedback question I found was on this message board. And without direction I wouldn't have looked here.

Again, we were simply trying to help out because the time frame to do the reunion was vastly approaching and not much had been done. As Lenae stated we had no money to put down on a deposit. We did look into several venues to host a "fancier" dinner however you must put down a hefty deposit to hold it. The 4 of us together did not have $500-$800 to hold a venue. We did the best we could on short notice. Like Lenae said we apologize for those of you that are not happy with the decisions but we hope tha in having something Friday and Saturday that at least one of the events will be something you can attend.

As for doing it on Halloween... this was highly debated between the 4 of us. In the end what we decided was that we had to make sure it was a HOME game obviously, first and foremost. Then our next step was to make sure there was no major events being held in Dallas that weekend in case out of town guests needed to book hotel rooms. There are several highly anticipated college football events done Dallas in Sept, Oct, and Nov where there is much traffic and booked hotel rooms. So once we considered this the last option was that we were hoping to have some sort of DJ at the luncheon. So we needed to also look at that schedule. So when you put these three things all together we had only 1 weekend that was an option.. Halloween weekend...The north vs. mesquite game. We did post on this page, the reunion facebook page, and on all of our personal facebook pages about voting for a date. One was halloween and one was a date that we would not have a DJ... based on that vote Halloween won by double the amount of votes. We apologize for anyone that did not get to partake in that vote but we posted it everywhere we had access to. Again, we look forward to seeing you all at the reunion.

I am so glad that we are able to have this reunion. I am really looking forward to seeing all. I am sad that instead of being happy there is something, most are complaining about the events of this year. Why don't we all go have a good time and let’s discuss the possibility of getting the party people or someone else to help us have a large 15th reunion? I know we are bummed that it is not as big as we had imagined 10 years ago, but that is life. Can we be flexible and understanding on this one and make the next one a huge blow out???
