Mr. Sawyer was my favorite teacher. I admired his intelligence and his sense of humor. He always had such silly names for us and it's a shame I can't remember some of the crazier ones. His disdain for the misuse of the English language was well known and amusing. Everytime I hear someone say towardS instead of toward I think of him, because if you took his class you quickly learned that towardS is not a word. I don't know if there was another teacher in high school who expected so much out of us and I appreciated that; he really wanted us to succeed and I think he tried his best to prepare us for college (no matter how much we resisted). Mr. Sawyer was an awesome teacher and person and I loved his class.
In school I DID NOT like Mr.Sawyer, but now that I am an adult and a teacher I see now that he only wanted the best for his students. For that I will always remember him and say thanks to him.
Mr. Sawyer would be extremely honored by the kind words you have said about him. He was a good friend to me and made teaching even more enjoyable than it was already. We lost contact with each other after I left Mexia, but he will always be someone I remember fondly.
