Ralph and I were often seated next to each other because our names were close in alphabetical order. I have a couple of great stories from study hall, but can't tell them in this forum.
I went to school with Ralph from the 2nd through 12th grades, first at Sts. Peter and Paul and then MHS. He was fun-loving, at times serious, and a reliable friend. My favorite story about Ralph took place in the 9th grade when he was told by his mother in early December, 1956, that if he got caught smoking again, the consequences would be dire. On December, 31, during the Orange Bowl Parade, Ralph was sitting in one of the few trees found on Flagler Street at the time, watching the parade and smoking a cigarette, A news photographer happened to come by, saw him in the tree, took his picture, and it was on the front page of the Miami Herald the next day, with the cigarette. His mother saw the picture and was not happy. And soon after, neither was Ralph.
