In Memory

Susan Whittaker (Brancati)

Susan Brancati, 78, of Goldens Bridge, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Born in Evanston, Illinois, she spent her early years in Manhasset and later Brookville, Long Island, with her parents, Arthur and Teddy, and her brothers, Linzee and Robert. Susan was an alumna of The Emma Willard School and Bradford Junior College before graduating from Middlebury College in 1969 with a degree in Art History. It was at Middlebury where she met the love of her life, Ed. The two were married on May 16, 1970, and shared nearly 56 years of devoted marriage. Their adventure began in Germany during Ed’s Army service, and later settled in Manhattan, then Purdy’s, and finally in Golden’s Bridge.

Susan’s professional life began in New York City as a secretary at the esteemed law firm Davis Polk. After moving to Westchester County, she dedicated many years to the John Jay High School library in Cross River, retiring as a senior clerk. Susan shared her vibrant spirit through her love of Broadway, sports, horses, and singing. A woman of deep faith, she was the compassionate anchor and mediator of her family, guiding everyone with humor, love, and a grace reminiscent of Emily Post. Her life was defined by the selfless care she provided to those around her.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Theodora Whittaker; her brother, John Linzee Whittaker; and her niece Karen Haggerty. Susan leaves behind a legacy of love in her husband, Edward Brancati; her sons, Ed and Chris and Chris’ wife, Liz; and her daughter, Allison. She is also lovingly remembered by her three cherished grandchildren, Chris Jr., Joseph, and Luke. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Robert Whittaker, and his wife, Anne; their daughters, Megan and Carrie; her sisters-in-law Lena Whittaker and Carol Glazer; her brothers-in-law John Brancati and Paul Glazer, her nieces Alden, Ashley, and Debbie; and her nephews Michael, David, and James; and a wide circle of devoted relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM at The Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco, located at 605 Millwood Rd, Mt. Kisco, NY.
