Craig Statz

Craig Steven Statz, age 31, of Cross Plains, died on Feb. 7, 2003, from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in Northern Wisconsin. He was born on July 7, 1971, in Madison, the son of Gerald and Sandra (Pertzborn) Statz. A 1989, graduate of Middleton High School, Craig attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1994. Craig married Kristine C. Rabe on Aug. 4, 2000, in Cross Plains. He was co-owner and vice president of Statz and Harrop, Inc. Craig served as vice president of Cross Plains Snowmobile Club CP Riders, and was liaison to the Dane County Council for the CP Riders Snowmobile Club. Craig was an avid outdoorsman and a loving and proud father. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Kris; his two year old son, Brady, and a child due April 8; beloved son of Gerald and Sandra (Pertzborn) Statz; brothers, Jeff (Sarah) Statz of California, Brad Statz of Cross Plains; grandfather, Herbert (Mary) Statz; mother-in-law, Pamela Rabe of Monona; brother-in-law, Scott (Wendy) Rabe of North Carolina; a niece, Hannah Statz; nephews, Hunter and Hayden Statz, and Kyler and Noah Rabe; best buddies, Jesse Dahlk, and Jeff Zwettler; two God children, Evan Zwettler, and Melanie Accola; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Craig was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Lydia Pertzborn; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Statz; and an uncle, Richard Statz. Craig's time ended doing what he truly loved to do in the beautiful north woods. He will forever be our angel in the sky, watching over all those who touched his life. We'll miss you.
