Obituary for Joe Angel Mendoza

Joe Angel "Ankie" Mendoza, 68, of Midland passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023. He was born on January 8, 1955, in Midland to Angel and Elena P. Mendoza. He attended school in Midland and graduated from Midland High School. He played baseball growing up and competed in cross country in high school and received a scholarship. He a competed in all-state and received many trophies and medals. He was quite the track star.

He started working at a very young age to help his mom. His first job was with the Midland Reporter Telegram selling newspapers. He also worked at the Post
Office, Clay-Desta, and Midland Odessa Metals for several years. He was a very hard worker, he never shied away from work.

Joe married Tavita Mendoza, and they had six children. He loved and enjoyed gardening; he spent many hours working on his yard to perfect it. He loved springtime when he would plant and enjoyed all the beautiful colors. That is where he was the happiest and at peace. He loved to decorate for all the Holidays. He especially loved to decorate for Christmas, every year he would pick a fresh white flocked tree.

Joe was very sociable and talked to anyone and everyone and had many friends through the years. He was quite the jokester and loved making people laugh. He was also a great dancer and loved, loved, loved to dance. The oldies were his favorite music. He looked forward to camping, fishing, and cooking out with his
extended family every year. He loved all his family dearly but had a special place in his heart for his late aunt Maria Mendoza, whom he called "Mami". He also, had a very sweet special bond with his beloved grandson Brandon.

Joe is survived by his wife Tavita Mendoza, daughter Joanna Torres, son Joe Luis Mendoza, son Joe Angel Mendoza Jr., daughter Angelina Ni�o and husband Jessie, son Tommy Mendoza and wife Elizabeth all of Midland. Grandchildren Destini Mendoza, Brianna Mendoza Guillen, Marissa Mendoza, Jessie Brandon Nino III, Bella Nino, Tommy Mendoza Jr., Aubrey Mendoza. Great-grandchildren Kayson, Isaiah, and Mila. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Mendoza, sisters, Mary Ann Bustillos, Belinda Portillo and Sylvia Mendoza, all of Midland.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Angel and Elena P. Mendoza, brother Luis Mendoza, son Edward Mendoza.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at American Heritage Funeral Home from 4-9 pm.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 12:00 pm, officiated by the Rev. Abel V. Torres with burial to follow at American Heritage, 4100 N FM 1788, Midland 79707.
