July 28, 1948 – February 13, 2026
Richard Frederic Gianni passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in New York City on July 28, 1948, to Carroll V. Gianni, a broker, and Clara Buccolieri Gianni.
Shortly after his birth, Richie and his family moved to Maplewood, NJ where he spent most of his childhood. During his senior year of high school, he moved to Millburn — a move that would shape the rest of his life, for it was there, he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Dale Janice Schoenfeld. They would marry in 1971 and enjoy over 50 years together.
While at MHS, Richie demonstrated his natural and enthusiastic activism when he and a group of students successfully petitioned the township for a youth recreation center, a place for teenagers to gather when not in classes (see below). Post MHS, while at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, his opinions on social and political issues often appeared in local newspapers.
Before beginning his career, Richie proudly served in the National Guard, demonstrating early on the sense of duty and commitment that would define much of his life. Following his service, he became a member of the New York Stock Exchange, where he built a respected career as a Specialist Broker. He dedicated many years to his work with professionalism, integrity, and determination, forming lasting relationships along the way.
Richie was known for his short stature but larger-than-life presence. He had a big personality, a sharp wit, and a tremendous sense of humor that could light up any room. His quick one-liners and playful spirit made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
He was also deeply philanthropic and believed strongly in giving back. He was a proud supporter of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, and St. Jude’s Hospital, generously contributing to help advance care within the community.
Richie was predeceased by his parents and brother, Charles M. Gianni. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jason Gianni (Jody), his daughter, Lisa Aaron (Josh), his granddaughters Bella Gianni and Harper Aaron, and his brother, Keith B. Gianni of Fairbanks, Alaska.
From his obituary ~ “Richie will be remembered for his enduring love story with Dale, his unwavering commitment to his family, his generosity, and the laughter he brought into the lives of so many. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, and in the countless memories filled with humor and love.”

Robert 'Rob' (Was 'Bob) Weidenfeld
I was not really close to Richie During high school. Of course I wasn't really close to anybody, but I wanted to change. Richie Was a big part of my inspiration to do so. I was shy, kept to myself, And not very happy with who I was. I saw him as a person of short stature, not having dashing good looks Yet somebody Who exuded confidence and was comfortable in any setting. When he won the award senior year as the most humorous person in the class, I was jealous. That's who I wanted to be. Through an arduous process over the next few years. I worked on being more outgoing and demonstrating my confidence in myself. I was able to transition, and in many ways have become the person I always wanted to be...more like Richie. I told the story to Richie at our 50th reunion. Though we weren't even close friends , I mourn his loss. Condolences to all of his family.
