Obituary:

GEORGE LUCHT George Lucht, formerly of Kent, Ohio passed away peacefully of natural causes following a short illness in Wilmington, NC on 11/23/15. Born in Milwaukee, WI on 9/7/22 to George and Hattie (Hedwig Conrad) Lucht, George led an athletic life, first as part of a tumbling team in junior high (his father was an acrobat in a Vaudeville troupe when he first met Hattie, a singer), and then as a football standout at quarterback at both Washington High and at Lawrence College. He had a lifelong friendship with a group of friends nicknamed the "Rover Boys" in Milwaukee. He is survived by a daughter Beth (Jim) Ogle of Summerville, SC, and sons Robert (Martha) Lucht of West Lafayette, IN and David (Mary) Lucht of Wilmington, NC. He was a wonderful father to all, making his children's spouses feel truly included, as well. He adored his 8 grandchildren, Kristen Ogle Ginsburg, Jennifer Ogle Bearden, Laurie Ogle LaMagna, Ryan George, Rachel and Becca Lucht, as well as Kimberly and Heather Lucht. He also had 7 great-grandchildren. George enlisted in the US Army (84th Infantry), and saw heavy action in the Battle of the Bulge. While awaiting his return to university in Wisconsin, he played more football with an army league, and met Alta Kibler, of Hudson, OH, who was serving her country at a hospital in Heidelberg. They were married before returning stateside, and ultimately resided for many happy years on Sylvan Drive in Kent, OH. She preceded him in death in 2007. After completing a MEd at KSU, and a PhD in Education at Indiana University, George taught in the Kent State University College of Education, where he was a specialist in campus and school planning. He enjoyed his many friendships made on campus, at the gymnasium, and on the golf course, as he remained active throughout his life. When he retired, George busied himself at Robinson Memorial Hospital volunteering as an inside transporter, and also worked as a starter at the KSU golf course. His hobbies included woodworking, and he completed many projects, which he gave as gifts to his children and grandchildren. George was a great husband, devoting himself to caring for "Allie" full-time when she became ill and needed him most. He was an active grandfather; who often went swimming, skiing, sledding and ice skating with his "kids" well into his 80's. George will be remembered for his smile, the twinkle in his blue eyes, and his great sense of humor. He was admired by many for his strength and kindness. Donations may be made to the National MS Society at http://.www.nationalmssociety.org/. or National MS Society PO Box 4527 New York, NY 10163 A memorial service is tentatively planned in Kent, Ohio the weekend of May 7, 2016.
