Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Ed "E.J." Haker, of Waukesha, was called Home to glory on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Nancy, his daughters; Vicki (Abe) Greenman and Karen (Jamie) Lindau and the late Lori. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Brian (Anna), Kelly (Tom), Angela, Cameron (Meg), Elias, and Kyia and six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Further survived by his Bill (Marilyn), other relatives and friends.

Ed was a very active individual. In his youth he was very attracted to boating, building many boats ranging in length from 8-16 feet; using them for racing, water skiing and sailing. He was active in all three phases, and successfully raced in the 90 mile long Lake Winnebago Outboard Race in 1952. An Alumnus of Marquette University, he was later awarded Professional Engineering status by the State of Wisconsin. He provided consulting engineering services for several Wisconsin companies. In the 1970’s, he was also a national advocate for the vibratory compaction of asphalt highways and airport runways, working with both The Asphalt Institute, paving contractors and State Highway Departments throughout the country. Today, vibratory compaction has become the national standard. His major activity in life was in custom home designing and building; for over 40 years, he had designed and built many homes. He also served on the Elm Grove Building Board for over 25 years, ten of which were as chairman. He was a long-time member of Sherman Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, serving in many capacities. After moving to Waukesha, he joined Ascension Lutheran Church, where he has been a member for 17 years. After retirement, he developed a strong desire to give something back to society and did this by volunteering in many areas, and also by helping people and organizations whenever possible.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, at ASCENSION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1415 Dopp St., Waukesha, from 2:00 - 3:15 PM. Funeral Service at 3:30 PM. Private interment at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to “The Lori Jean Haker Memorial Fund” or to Ascension Lutheran Church may be made.
