Jo Ann Ellefson (Brandt) - Class Of 1947

JoAnn E. Brandt (nee Ellefson) JoAnn Marie Ellefson Brandt, age 90, of Brookfield, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019, with her family by her side. JoAnn was born June 28, 1929, in Milwaukee to John and Irene Ellefson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1947 and earned her teaching degree from Milwaukee Downer College in 1951. JoAnn married Richard Brandt on August 23, 1952. They built their first house in Brookfield in 1956 and live there to this day. JoAnn is survived by her husband Richard and the people lucky enough to call her mom, Christopher (Kay) and Leslie. Her son Jonathan (Melissa) preceded her. JoAnn will also be remembered by her five grandchildren, Laura Brandt (Tim) Wachter, Eric (Amanda) Brandt, Bridgette Brandt, Alison Komas and Brandt Komas. Her stories will also be told to her four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Asher, Norah and Otto. JoAnn loved her many dogs over the years and always hoped to see them again in heaven. Teddy and Suzie will miss her. JoAnn taught Home Economics at Pulaski High School after graduation until they started their family. Later JoAnn went back to teaching as a substitute teacher with the Elmbrook school district for over 25 years. She specialized in Special Education at Brookfield Central High School. Over those years JoAnn touched many lives and will be remembered by countless students and staff. JoAnn was also active in her community with many years on the local PTA. She was also president of the Elm Grove Women's Club 1975-76. Anyone that knew JoAnn would say she was always on the go. Dick and JoAnn loved to travel and spent many happy retirement winters in Florida visiting Nan and George and Marianne. It was not uncommon to have granddaughters say they were unable to keep up with grandma when shopping. When family had medical issues that needed help with recovery, people decades younger would all stay at JoAnn's to recuperate. As a home economist, she loved to cook and was trying new recipes all the time. Her great cooking skills were always appreciated by the big boys in her family. Her strength and compassion will be missed by all who were made stronger by knowing and loving her. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at the CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (1875 N.
