Phil's Entry for the Memory Book at the 2008 Reunion:

After graduating from DB I went on to Marquette University and was then drafted into the US Army and was In Military Intelligence and my unit was the one that found the missiles in Cuba. After 2 years in the service I came home and went to work in the Insurance business and bought out family members who owned Fons & Co an Insurance and Real Estate business in 1972. I got married in 1975 and have a step son Michael and son Graham Fons. Sail boat racing has always been a passion of mine and I was Lake Michigan Champion in 1972, and have won every race on Lake Michigan including the Chicago Mackinac that I have sailed 41 times. I now do limited racing as quest skipper on friends boat because I have a 40ft power yacht now. You might remember my good friend and fellow DB graduate Dick Tanger was killed when his jet place crashed off of Cuba. Dick also raced sail boats and so I put up a trophy in his name at South Shore Yacht Club and I sponsor this race ever year in him memory. My best to all fellow grads and happy 50th.
