Mike and I  always seemed to be sitting near each other in high school’s “aphabetical wonderland” of seating charts since both our last names began with an “M”. He was always kind, helpful, and a truly wonderful person and classmate. I hadn’t seen Mike in decades but I fondly remember him for all of his outstanding qualities. I am sure he will be missed by all whose lives he touched. I’m sure Mrs. Koss (advanced English teacher during our time at Pulaski H.S.) would smile at all of Mike’s wonderful accomplishments as an English Professor.

As I was saying my morning prayers today, I came across Michael's obit, so I thought I would share  it.

"Michael was a dedicated and passionate professor in the department of English at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. He was kind, caring and thoughtful. Michael deeply valued and respected his colleagues at the University of St. Thomas and treasured the many friendships he developed. Michael will be missed by all who knew him".

I think we were the only 2 students who took 3rd year Latin., but not the same hour. We would sit at the back table by ourselves, and Miss Riedl would give us an assignment We would leave notes to each other hidden somehow. I will always remember how much he loved the Movie "Gone with the Wind". Seems he saw it every weekend! Brings a smile to my face...

"Gone with the Wind" is not the only movie Mike saw every weekend.  He once told me he saw Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" which I hadn't seen yet because I worked on weekends.  I told him how lucky he was to have been able to have time to see that movie--a movie which I really wanted to see. Mike then gave me a very surprising look (sort of like "Pat, don't tell me how lucky I am to see '2001'"!).  Then Mike told me that he had a job as an usher on weekends for quite a time at a theater in downtown Milwaukee which shows the same, long-running, epic movies for months--including "2001" and that he was quite tired of seeing "2001" over and over on many weekends.  But I can understand Mike's position on "2001"--Hal (the mad computer in "2001") is really no match for the story and cast of "Gone with the Wind."

Well, That would explain why he saw  Gone with the Wind so many times! He failed to mention he worked as an usher...a minor ommission on his part!

I once sat through GWTW twice at the National Theater. I had a crush on Clark Gable. I also read the book and was disappointed that it wasn't exactly like the movie.
