It's hard to put into a couple of sentences what has happened in the past 25 years, without it being completely boring. After I graduated from St. Olaf in 1987 (with a degree in piano performance), I went to the University of Southern California for graduate school (in music). I stayed in Los Angeles, trying to find myself, until 1991 (guess what, I wasn't there). I then moved back to the Twin Cities and got my first job as a professional fund raiser, writing grants for the Minnesota Orchestra. Since then, I have worked as a development professional in Cleveland (Oberlin College), New York City (Columbia University), Los Angeles (the Museum of Contemporary Art), San Francisco (SFMOMA) and finally Houston where I was, until very recently, Associate Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. I have just been "stolen away" from there and will start a new job and new life as head of Business Development for Sotheby's. I will split my time between Los Angeles and New York.
I have had two very serious relationships in my life (and countless not so serious ones), and am partnered with Christopher Tandon, who lives in Los Angeles and works in film as a production designer. We have been together for 9 years and I suppose one day we will take advantage of the new California law and actually make it legal. We have no children (we haven't been able to agree on that point).
