Catherine Jane Steinberg Burton, of Portland Oregon, aged 59, died suddenly on November 14, 2011. She is survived by the joy of her life, son David James Burton, and her mother, Barbara Steinberg of Salem OR, sister Mary Ann Kolb (Emil) of Minneapolis, MN, sister Elizabeth Steinberg of Salem, brother, Willis H Steinberg Jr (Melodi), of Raleigh NC, nieces Elisabeth and Jessica and nephew Michael. She was preceded in death by her father Willis H Steinberg and nephew Timothy.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church , 1444 Liberty St, Salem, OR on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2 pm. Interment will be in the Columbarian at St Paul's.
Jane was born in Omaha NE and grew up in Hastings NE and Minneapolis MN, graduating from West High in 1970. She was a Rotary International Exchange Student in Sweden for a year following graduation. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, majoring in Scandinavian Studies. Following college she worked in Minneapolis at the COMB company until she relocated to Oregon in 1982.
Jane was an accomplished sales person and customer service manager. She held positions at Unify Corp, Inter-Solv Corp, and CFI Proservices before founding her own business, Steinberg and Burton, reselling computer software to large businesses and organizations. Following the birth of her son, she turned her hobby of postcard collecting into a thriving internet business. She was a member of the Portland Webfooters Postcard Club.
Jane was known for her wit and intelligence. Her many interests included rock hunting at the Oregon coast, cooking, and reading. She especially enjoyed researching history and the postcards she was selling. She was an Ace at Yahtzee, played a mean game of Boggle, and was the happiest when her family was around her.
