After 31 years of teaching at Cawthra Park, I retired in 2004. Because I had been there for so many years, I earned the title of "Mother Cawthra" and my room (208) was known as Gruppland. Many students would tell me that I had taught their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles and I decided to leave before hearing that I taught someone's grandparents. I went back to teach at Cawthra for a year and a 1/2 after my retirement when one of the new teachers went on maternity leave. I think I have had enough now. I love being a grandmother (una nonna), spending time with my granddaughter and have finally put down my chalk.
I looked at the names of these 1984 graduates and a smile came to my face-- so many wonderful people and beautiful memories. I look forward to attending the reunion, seeing familiar faces and hearing stories of the present and the past.
Much love, Madame/ Signora Grupp
P.S. I have NOT included a picture because I look exactly the same-- have not aged a bit-- teaching kept me young--you'll see!!
