Duane R. Baker, 64, of Moline, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home, following complications from diabetes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be later at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island High basketball program or to the Moline High School soccer program.
Duane was born on Aug. 23, 1948, in Moline, a son of Howard and Evelyn Marks Hillman. He married Patricia A. Cusick on Aug. 5, 1972, in Rock Island.
Duane graduated from Moline High School in 1966 and later from Palmer Junior College, Davenport. He worked for 25 years at the John Deere Parts Distribution Center and then five years at John Deere Harvester. He retired in 2007.
He was a member of the Svithiod Club, Moline, where he enjoyed playing cribbage. Duane also was one of the founding members of the Moline Soccer Club and Moline Basketball Association. He was a volunteer coach for over 20 years with youth sports in Moline, active in baseball, basketball and soccer. Duane was an avid fan of high school sports but most enjoyed watching his sons coach.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Tracey Baker, Rock Island, and Drew and Candice Baker, Beach Park; grandchildren, Braeden Baker and Kiely Jones, both of Rock Island, and Caden Baker, Beach Park; his stepmother, Barbara Hillman, Davenport; sisters and brothers, Cathy (Martin) Rothchild, Geneseo, Dale (JoAnne) Hillman, Colona, Beckey (John) Gayman, Davenport, Debbie Van Almen, Davenport, and David (Barbara) Hillman, Centennial, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Evelyn.
