A beautiful light went out of our lives tonight……Dannye Kay Blair Strickland died. This past year she was a guiding light and my hero through my battle with cancer. I received the news from my doctor on Wednesday that I am in remission right now. All I could think of is how happy and excited she would be for me and Jerry……I never got to tell her but I know she knows it now and is rooting for me.
D. K. and I were such good friends through school in Monahans. When she and I were in the 7th grade I decided to “run away from home”. I hid under the cedar bushes in D. K.’s front yard. D. K. knew I was there and kept sneaking sodas out to me even after it got dark……I asked her not to tell my Mother. In the meantime, My Mother was calling everyone I knew in Monahans and, finally, Dannye Kay told her Mother where I was…she was careful not to break her promise to me! We have laughed about that several times over the years. Needless to say, I was grounded……in fact I may still be grounded because my Mom said something about “for life”.
I will miss her heartfelt laugh, her beautiful smile, her fighting spirit, her positive attitude and her wonderful friendship. Our love and prayers are with Bill, her husband, Dan, her Dad, and all her family.
I’ll be seeing you someday, Sweet Girl……until then……
“You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...”

I'm so sad-----DK was sweet to everyone. We had slumber parties at her house alot----what a great laugh she had. Her mom helped pick out the material, etc for my wedding dress!!! Dannye Kay, you will be greatly missed by all. I know the angels were singing and smiling big as DK entered her heavenly home.

Dannye Kay and I were across the street neighbors for several years on Ilda/Eric street, and played together on occasion. We had lost touch after high school until very recently, but my memories of her are of a vibrant and charismatic young woman. What a shame that she has passed away so soon. Rest in peace, Dannye Kay.

Dannye Kay was so sweet through the years. I was very shy, backwards, sadly I had very few friends in Monahans. Dannye kept in touch and was one of two ladies who did so. I felt such blessings coming from Dannye. I have overcome my shyness and Dannye helped me with that. I miss you Dannye, God knows how caring you are.
